WITH THE BEGINNING of a

have by now decided that this
is the term in which we will

we won't let an ugly D or E

CENTRAL FRESHIES (par-
don us, it's only in fun) . are
planning to have loads of social
activities during the coming
term. To prove this, a new
club has been formed which in-
cludes some of the popular gals
who just graduated Durfee. The
group will be known; as the
Pandoras, and some of the gals
are Joan Lewis, Geraldine Katz,
Rodah Aissen, Rodah Goldstein,
Evelyn Grossman, Hermine Lipp-
man and Barbara Budson. . .

THIS YEAR the Durfee Unity
Forum will really have a chance
to get underway, and it is our
sincere hope that with the able
leadership of Sheldon Otis the
club will really be a huge. suc-
cess in forming a true bond of
unity and fellowship through-
out the school and community.

OHHHH!! IS DANE CLARK
ever swell to meet . . . Dane
asked me to pass this message
on to you and we think that
if it's really taken to heart the
world could be loads better.
Don't ever be indoctrinated but
"investigate all the things you
hear. Always use your own
minds and think for yourselves,
believe in what you think and
then above all 'to Thine Own
Self Be True' ".
Dane went on to tell us, "In
every respect teen-agers are
swell. Only when a few wise
guys try to show off and act
wise, it ruins things for the
others. I like my fans but when
they go to the extr:me extent
of tearing my clothes it is de-
pressing." • • •

IN 1892, SEVERAL Jewish families were assisted by the Jewish
Agriculturists' Aid Society of Chicago to settle near Benton
Harbor.
In 1933, a group of 97 families, drawn from the radical ele-
ments in the large cities, bought 9,000 acres of land with 80 build-
ings near Saginaw and founded the "Sunrise Cooperative Com-
munity."
The land had belonged to a large estate and was acquired at
what was considered an extremely low price and on exceedingly
favorable terms. A large quantity of live stock, farm machinery
and crops planted on 2,000 Acres were included in the purchase.
The colony was' conceived as a strictly collectivistic enterprise
with the land and all personal property belonging to the
munity and all farm operations conducted for its collective Ix

THE COLONY had a brief and checkered career. Members
dropped out and new ones came in. Internal strife and economic
'pressure made the going tough and by 1936 the colony had be-
come a matter of history.

Fortunately for its members as well as for its creditors, the
Resettlement Administration bought the property for a govern-
ment venture, enabling the colony to liquidate its debts and to
make refunds to its members. A small segment of the Sunrise
Community tried again in Samos, Va., but that colony had even
a shorter existence.
