Detioiters Win Prizes
at Lesser's Lodge

A costume party was held re-
cently at Lesser's Clover. Lodge
in Omena, Mich. Sixty couples
from Detroit and Chicago par-
ticipated in the festivities.
Benjamin Jaffe was awarded
first prize for his impersonation
of an Italian organ grinder, and
Mrs. Jaffe shared the honor,
characterizing a monkey collect-
ing coins for the Jewish Nation-
al Fund.
Mr. and Mrs. Zolmon Landy
won second prize as a gay nine-
ties couple. Third prize went
to Frances Shayne and fourth
to Martin Eskin.

CAMPAIGN FOR SOS

Mesdames William Nadler and
Morris Halperin, SOS chairmen,
are. conducting a campaign for
canned and dehydrated foods to
be shipped to European Jewish
survivors. A sewing project
where layettes for overseas chil-
dren are being made is also spon-
sored by the Sisterhood. '
On Aug. 27, the Sisterhood
prepared and served a dinner to
50 patients of the Percy Jones
Hospital, in cooperation with the
Jewish Community Center.

Eight residents of the Jewish
Home for Aged were honored
at a birthday party Aug. 28.

Selig Levin played the violin
accompanied on the piano by
Edward Wayburn. They enter-
tained the folks with Yiddish
and English songs. The resi-
dents joined in folk dances and
group singing.
These parties are monthly
events sponsored by the Wo-
men's Auxiliary. Mrs. Samuel
Weller is the president. The
committee in charge of arrange-
ments for the party included

military command here warned
the German people that unless
they put down the recent re-
surgence of Nazi activities in
Berlin, the occupation powers
would be forced to do so. .
The Soviet statement cited the
desecration of Jewish cemeteries
and the smashing of a monu-
ment to Nazi victims.
