NEW YORK—The signing of
m agreement by the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee with the
Union o Orthodox Rabbis, pro-
viding that those programs of
the JDC devoted to the rehabil-
itation and advancement of or-

America was revealed today.
At the proposal of the JDC,
the Union of Orthodox Rabbis
has sponsored the formation of
a new body, the Jewish Central
Orthodox Committee, represent-
ing several sections cf ortho-
doxy. The new committeee will
work directly with the JDC.
At the same time, the Union
of Orthodox Rabbis will disas-
sociate itself from all efforts or
groups seeking to collect funds
here or in Canada for assistance
to orthodox institutions or pro-
jects coming within the JDC
overseas program.
This action is expected to re-
sult in the marked reduction of
such appeals, which are com-
petitive to the fund raising ef-
forts of the United Jewish Ap-
peal from which the JDC re-
ceives its principal funds.
The JDC will bear the cost of
financing orthodox Jewish edu-
cational institutions, Yeshivoth
and the restoration of syna-
gogues.
The Vaad Hahatzala, which
has operated as an orthodox
Jewish fund-raising agency for
overseas purposes with the spon-
iorship of the Union of Orthodox
Rabbis, is to withdraw from all
general relief activities in behalf
of Europe's Jewish survivors.
Dr. Henry Shoskes, HIAS Latin America representative, leads a group of Jewish immigrants

Unity, Leader Says
NEW YORK (JTA)—The Jews
in Argentina are moving toward
greater unity as a result of the

Leon Liscovich, Argentine Jewish
leader, reported.
Born in Argentina, Dr. Lisco-
vich is active in Jewish commu-
nity life in Cordoba where he
