Thank You, Detroit
The new management 'of the Jewish
Chronicle was delighted and humbled by
the spontaneous flood of good wishes that
poured in with the announcement of the
change in management.
The many kind wishes and pledges of
support were encouraging to us and made
us doubly certain that Detroit wants a
vigorous, independent and youthful news-
paper that serves only what is honest and
just.
We shall never be able to thank ade-
quately the scores of both Jewish and non-
Jewish communal and civic leaders and our
subscribers and friends who phoned their
congratulations or who sent letters and
telegrams.
We can only say to them, we have prom-
ised you a dynamic newspaper. That is
what we are going to give you.
claws in the very faces of the United Na-
tions commissioners.
What are the United Nations and The
idea of peaceful talk and investigation to
generals who are accustomed to bare the
fist, strike hard and then negotiate on their
own terms? To such a sorry pass has the
empire come, that without the generals, it
often wavers and gives assent to what is
just and right.
But not in the Yishuv.
First came martial law for Nathanya.
Another city was cut off from the world in
a typically Hitlerian gesture of retribution
on a community for the transgressions of
l a few.
