JUSTICE STEINBRINK

`Lie' Accusation
Hurled at Gossett

WASHINGTON,
NGTON, D.C. (World
WASHI Services) — The Strat-
ton bill was put back in the
mothballs this month, after a neat
exhibition of hoisting on one's
own petard.
The witness was Attorney Gen ;
eral Tom Clark, clashing con-
stantly with another Texan, the
anti-Semite Ed Gossett. Carry-
ing the administration burden,
Clark was constantly put on the
defensive by Gossett as the latter
threw at him all the canards
which have been used by Ameri-
can chauvinists and reactionaries
to Appose the bill.
Gossett, for instance, threw the
charge that 100,000 of the dis-
placed persons are Russian Jews
assigned by the Soviet Union to
make their way to this country
to serve as a fifth column.
Clark, whose henchmen have
been whipping up the anti-Red
hysteria, deprecated the charge.
Unabashed, Gossett fumed about

since the war and are living in
apparent safety.
On another occasion, referring
to non-Jews, Gossett asked why
we should expect good from pea
ple unwilling to return to their
own countries to work for the
good of their countrymen.

anti-Semitic.
The difference seems to stem
mainly from the divergent view-

Gentile community. Already, it
seems, American Jews are be-
ginning to lose the sharp sense
of identification they felt during
the Hitler era.
We don't like to be alarmist,
but one thing should be pointed
out: We are already bringing to
this country far too many Hit-

course. American nationals who

EMGO, Germany (JTA) —
Brigadier A.G. Kenchington, chief
of the DP division of the British
control commission in Germany,
revealed that he had been for-
bidden by the British cabinet to
address the second conference of
the Central Committee of Lib
crated Jews in the British zone.
Kenchington told a group of
Jewish voluntary relief workers
who called on him that he had
been ordered not to attend the
conference, after he had already
decided to attend, on the grounds
that the British government re-
fused to recognize the committee,
