A special study of the results
of rapid treatment of early syph-
ilis with penicillin will be fin-
anced by an appropriation from
the Jesse F. Hirschman Memo-
rial Fund, the board of trustees
of North End Clinic voted this
week.
Since North End Clinic is the
only agency in Detroit with a
plan for the rapid treatment of
syphilis patients with penicillin.
this project will provide addi-
tional facilities for patients and
an opportunity for investigative
study which ill cover a two-
year period.
The appropriation of $500 from
the memorial fund, which was
created at the time of the death
of the clinic's first president,
will defray expenses incidental
to the study, particularly the
'cost of penicillin.
Mr.'ilirschman served as pres-
ident of the clinic from 1925 to
1935 and continued as a member
of the board of trustees until
his death in 1942. The fund was
created by a group of his friends.
