Northwest Men Spur New 'Wing $1,000 Gift Is Added Ruhiner Reelected Center. President Mrs. Lakoff Named to a N ice-Presidency Women's $5.400 'The Men's Club of the North- west Hebrew Congregation has presented $1,000 to the synagogue to help finance the erection of a second wing for which ground was broken last week. A gift of $5.900 from the sis- terhood was previously announ- ced. Th,e addition will almost double the capacity of the synagogue, Maurice J. Karo, building com- mittee chairman, reports. The wing is expected to be finished by Rosh .Hashonah to permit the entire membership to worship in the building. Plans call fur the continuance of work on a school edifice. The entire st?ucture will be 165 feet wide, fronting on Curtis avenue, and 100 feet deep. Provisions have been made for small chapel, library and meeting rooms. In the fall, the congregation plans to expand its program of adult education under the direc- tion of Rabbi Jacob E. Segal. Four weekly classes are planned. Ira G. Warshawsky of Atkinson avenue when they spoke their vows at the Bnai David Synagogue. Mrs. Warshawsky is the daughter of Mrs. Joseph Selin and the late Mr. Selin of Iron River, Mich. • The bride attended the University of Michigan and is a graduate of the nursing school at Henry Ford Hospital. The groom is presently attending the Wayne University Law School and was a student at the University of Notre Dame. The couple are honeymooning in New York. Rubiner was unani- mously re-elected president of the Jewish Community Center, at a meeting of the board of directors June 30. Rubiner continues his post with a rich background of experience in community service. He has been chairman of the Detroit army and navy committee of the Jewish Welfare Board and mem- ber of the, metropolitan Detroit USO executi v e committee. Ile is president of Franklin Hills Country Club and a former president of the Standard Club. Ile is a member of the board of governors of the midwest section -of the Jewish Welfare Board and of the board of the Jewish Wel- fare Federation. As vice-presidents the follow- ing were elected: Mrs. Charles Lakoff, outgoing secretary; Mrs. Leonard H. Weiner, chairman of the Twelfth street center commit- tee; Harvey H. Goldman, chair- man of personnel practices; and Edward Kahn who continues as chairman of the scholarship com- mittee. Emil T. Stern was re-elected treasurer. He has served as chair- man on the Center's intermediate activities committee. The new secretary is Maurice D. Glasier who returns to a post he held prior to his induction into the army in 1991. The joint Yiddish culture com- mittee of the Jewish Community Council and the Jewish Commun- ity Center is drafting plans for a series of six programs to run :nonthly from November to April. In November a lecture on Jew- ish literature will be arranged as part of Jewish Book Month. There will be a Chanukah celebration in December and a Hasidic program in January. February is Jewish Music Month which will be observed here with a special program. A Purim celebration is planned for March and for April, the month of Passoyer, a program stressing the achievements of the Jewish people in Palestine.' Preparations are being made to sell season tic- kets, although tickets for indi- vidual events will also be avail- able. I.
