JERUSALEM-- (Special)
—As an act of collective pun-
ishment against the Jewish
populace for the explosion of
large oil installations in Hai-
fa, oil companies will be per-
mitted to boost the price of gas-

oline nearly 10 percent.
The ieirtompanies will retain
that liortion of the proceeds of
the price increases needed to
cover damages. A "special
fund" will get the remainder.
This fund will be spent to de-
velop projects in Arab sections
of Palestine.

ALL FOR THE ARABS
All consumers will be compel-
led to pay for the explosion last
March but the Arabs alone will
benefit from the sums collected.

Police on Monday exploded a
huge land mine placed in the
road over which members of the
UN Palestine commission were re-
turning following an air sightsee-

THWART EXTREMISTS
A patrol of Haganah had

to mine the road and had dis-
persed a group of extremists.
British troops were confined to
barracks as the authorities ex-
pected new attacks despite the UN
commission's denunciation of vi-
olence.
The Jewish Agency acclaimed
the UN rebuke and most of the
Hebrew press rallied against the
extremists whose acts In a 24
hour period resulted in the death
of four British soldiers and the
wounding of six more.
The Stern Gang announced that
the slayings were in retaliation
for the abduction and murder of
Rubowitz. The Hebrew press,
however, saw no justification for
the killing of the soldiers.
