JERUSALEM (WNS)—The tense atmosphere which
has prevailed over the Holy Land for months has not ma-

t•y will enjoy at least a comparative period of quiet during
the visit here of the U.N. inquiry commission, informed
sources believe.

FRIDAY, JUNE 6, 1947
Never before has appearance in
this country of a foreign athletic
ensemble aroused so much enthu-
siasm as the goodwill tour of the
all-Jewish Hapoel soccer team of
Palestine.
The 20 members of the squad
have come to the United States to
demonstrate to Jews and non-
Jews that construeive, normal ac-
tivities continue in Palestine des-
pite all obstacles.
They plan to use the proceeds
raised in the U.S. to build a large
stadium in Tel Aviv.
The cross-country junket calls for
other stops in New York, Philadel-
phia Baltimore, St. Louis, Los An-
geles and San Francisco. Ten
games will be played, three of
them in New York.
brought there in early childhood.
All players are amateurs and
play soccer in their spare time
much as Americans do baseball.
Like baseball, soccer is Palestine's
national sport.
Members of the team received
special leave from their work to
make the trip to the U.S. The
men hold jobs as mechanics, taxi-
drivers, carpenters, tool workers,
gas station operators and factory
workers.
Seven are veterans of the British
army, serving throughout the
Middle East and North Africa.
The Hapoel is the sports and
physical cultural organization of
the Histadrut, Palestine's Federa-
tion of Jewish Labor.
Tickets are priced at $1.80 and
are now on sale. For information
