York) outdoor track and field meet.
Mondschein, former U. S..'decath-
lon champ, placed first in the high
jump and broad jump and third in
the shot put and pole vault. Mayer
won the shot put and discus
throw, a phenomenal feat consid-
ering that he was convalescing
from bronchitis and was dressed in
civvies and moccasins.
Max Padla, NYU, took first in
the hammer throw, and Sam Klein,
Brooklyn College, came up with
the best javelin toss.

SEYMOUR (CY) BLOCK has
been sold by the Chicago Cubs to
Nashville in the Southern Associ-
ation. Before going away to war,
Block had held down the .second
base post for Nashville and led the
league in hitting. At first he re-
fused to .join the Vols, feeling he
was ready for the majors, but has
since changed his mind.

The Jewish Daily Forward's
golden jubilee will be celebrated
here on Tuesday, with a special
program. Richard Tucker of the
Metropolitan, Molly Ficdn and
Jacob Kolich will participate.
Alexander Kahn, general manager
of the Forward, will be the guest
speaker.
Commemorating the fiftieth an-
niversary of the paper's founding,
a special edition was issued on
Monday, May 25. Established in
1897, the Forward has expanded
from an eight-page publication to
a large and potent newspaper with •
editions in nine cities.
