World News in Brief

VIENNA, (JTA)—All installations for Jewish DP's in
Vienna operated by the United States military authorities
closed down this week and 300 persons, mostly sick and in-
firm, who were the last group of Jewish DP's in the city,
were moved out in a special train to the camps in the Amer-
lean zone in Austria.

This move follows an order is
stied last month by the U.S. Army
in Aubtria closing all American
DP camps to new refugees as of
April 21. The order leaves about
six hundred Jewish refugees,
stly of Romanian origin, in the
care of the Joint Distribu-
Committee.
Contrary to rumors that Ameri-
can military authorities would not
enforce the ban too strictly, the
most rigid adherence to the letter
of the order has been shown so
far by the Army authorities. As
closing of the camps coincided
with a considerable improvement
in the weather, the number of
Jewish refugees entering Austria
each week doubled in the course
of the past three weeks.
Since Jan. 1, the number of
Jewish refugees entering Austria
has averaged 100 per week, but in
the course of t!ie last twenty days,
since the order became effective,
about six hundred Jewish refugees
have arrived here. The JDC pro-
vides them with housing accom-
modations, food and medical care.

Reports on Poles,
Urges Aid to JDC

Increased aid to the Joint Dis-

mole than ever before now that
UNRRA has ended its activities,
Edward Z. Wrobleski, former chief
of the UNRRA distribution divi-
sion in Poland, declared.
Wrobleski, judge of the Detroit

returned recently from Poland,
lauded the work of JDC among
Polish Jews, He said the commit-
tee has won the respect of non-
Jewish agencies.
Wrobleski scoffed at reports
that anti-Semitism is running un-
abated in Poland. He said he
contacted several Jews who told
him they were saved from the
Nazis by their Gentile neighbors.
