I LINDA,

HAL NEWHOUSER, one of the
"great," in baseball, paid tribute
to Hank Greenberg when your re-
porter talked with him last week
. . Hal said, "There is no doubt
that Detroit lost a great man
when they sold Hank to the Pitts-
burgh Pirates. I think that Hank
was one of the finest players ever
to have been in baseball."
Hal himself is a wonderful per-
son or you could see for yourself
if you had a chance to meet him.
He's done so much to help encour-
age teen-agers. Last year the
Hal's Pals Club was started, This
is an organization of boys and
girls all over the country who
have formed individual chapters.
They help in worthwhile activities
such as the Red Cross and Com-
munity Chest.

I THOUGHT YOU'D LIKE to
hear sonic of Hal's views about
the Tigers, "Pat Mullin is one of
our best batters and he should do
very well also, Roy Cullenbine is
the best first baseman I've seen in
a long time."
I asked Hal if he would care to
make a prediction for us and here
it is: "Detroit has an excellent
pitching staff and the Tigers have
some good hitting material. With
this we ought to end up pretty
close in there at first place."
Hal also wants me to tell you
that "I like it very much when
you come down to the field and
I enjoy talking to you. I find
that my teen-age fans are con-
genial to talk to, and I always
enjoy meeting you on Saturdays
and Sundays."
