Community cooperation in the
annual spring Clean Up—Paint Up
campaign May 2-12 was asked by
Paul Talmage, chairman of the
campaign and secretary of the de-
partment of public works.
"Three quarters of the million
dollar appropriation for street
cleaning could be eliminated by
the ct operation of Detroiters in
keeping our city clean," said
Talmage. "Cooperation must start
in the kitchen with the wrapping
of all garbage, putting it in the
can and being sure to put the lid
on the can so that rats are
eliminated."

After a 10 years' separation, Rabbi Samuel Goettesman, descendant
of the famous Ba'al Shem Toy, founder of ChassidisM, greets his
wife Rachela and their sons, Aaron, 18, center, Abraham, 13, and
Israel, 20, on their arrival in New York City from Germany. The
Goettesman family were aided in their immigration by United Service
for New Americans, whose work is supported by the United Jewish
Appeal campaign for 5170,000,000 for 1917. Shortly after the Nazi
invasion, Mrs. Goettesman and her sons fled Poland to Russia. Later
they were sent to Siberia. Many of the Grand Rabbi's followers from
Eastern cities witnessed the family's long-awaited reunion.

We of the Twelfth-Linwood and Dexter sec-
tions have decided that we want our streets
to look best.
So .. . let's get together and get out our
rakes and shovels and brooms and paint
brushes. Let's cut our lawns, get the paper
off the street, plant seeds where necessary,
trim the hedges, repair the fence, clean and
paint up.
Let's not hang any clothes out in front. Any
necessary hanging should be in the back.
Let's hare a street we can be proud of.
