Legionnaire, Once Brushed by Death,
to Aid in Reburial of War Heroes Here
When the Julius Rosenwald
Post, American Legion, selected
Joseph Shapiro, 1983 Richton ave-
nue, to handle reburial arrange-
inents for Jewish war heroes
whose bodies will be shipped here
from overseas for final interment,
it set him thinking.
Shapiro, it seems, came close to
receiving the Purple Heart post-
humously in World War I. He
did receive that award for wounds
received in France, but he still
thinks he was lucky.
