New Homes in
Tel Aviv Suburb
This tiny Jewish boy is one of the victims of Nazi bestiality in
Poland. Clad in tattered clothes and burdened with his meager
possessions, he waits in Vienna to see if Austria has a place for
hint. Hitler has made an adult out of him. Your contribution to
the Allied Jewish Campaign, May 6-16, will help waifs like him.

History
Is Issued by ZOA
NEW YORK—The first complete
descriptive material on the Ha-
ganah movement in Palestine has
been made available in pamphlet
form by the education department
of the Zionist Organization of
America.
The pamphlet, which includes
the history of the Palestine resist-
ance movement as well as a re-
sume of its current activities, is
the first in a new series on dy-
namic Zionism being issued by
the ZOA.
In plain-spoken language, the
pamphlet hails the Haganah as
"a source of pride and affection;
its deeds are regarded as con-
stituting a new glorious and dra-
matic chapter in the history of
the Jewish people."

TEL AVIV (ZOA)—Some 1,400
Jewish ex-servicemen have moved
into new homes on former Ger-
man-owned land at Sarona, ex-
propriated by the Government for
a Tel Aviv municipal building
project.
The project, on 350 dunams of
land in the eastern part of Sarona
provide 1,300 apartments, the first
600 of which are now getting their
finishing touches.
Granting priority to war widows
and disabled ex-soldiers, the mu-
nicipality was beset by a problem
when it received about 3,000 ap-
plications from ex-servicemen for
houses in the new area. A special
sub-committee was appointed to
work out a points system — so
many points for age, family re-
sponsibilities, length of service.
If a man had been a prisoner
of war or had lived for 15 years
in Palestine, additional points
were awarded.
The new housing project was
started a year ago, and the 615
houses, almost ready, consist of
204 three-roomed, and 125 two-
roomed apartments, With the re-
mainder having one large and a
smaller room each. Of the $3,200,-
000 required to build these 615
houses, the government has con-
tributed $1,960,000 while the rest
has been met by the municipality
and the tenants themselves.
Dr. Goldstein Asks
Priority for UJA
NEW YORK — American Zion-
ists have a vital stake in the
United Jewish Appeal's $170,000,000
campaign and must become "com-
pletely integrated" in all of its
attendant activities, Dr. Israel
Goldstein, newly-elected national
chairman of the United Palestine
Appeal, declared in assuming his
new post.
"-Speaking before a recent UPA
executive committee meeting, Dr.
Goldstein, who served as presi-
dent of the Zionist Organization
of America in 1944-45, emphasized
that ''the Zionist organizations,
ZOA, Hadassah, Mizrachi and
Poale ZiOn have a special rela-
tionship to our program."
NEED FULL SUPPORT
"I shall regard it as part of my
responsibility to make American
Zionists more keenly aware of
how much the United Palestine
Appeal and the United Jewish
Appeal need their support in more
than one direction."
Dr. Goldstein pointed out that
his organization provides financial
support for the Jewish National
Fund, Palestine Foundation Fund,
and the Jewish Agency, whose
over-all programs are geared to-
ward the absorption and rehabili-
tation of Europe's homeless Jews.
Warning that "this is going to
be a difficult year in the Zionist
movement," Dr. Goldstein declar-
ed that despite these difficulties,
Palestine continues to be the most
vital phenomenon in Jewish life,
creating homes and productive
lives for hundreds of thousands of
Jews.
The new UPA chairman ex-
pressed the certainty that "The
Zionist movement possesses the
spiritual resources to cope with
the latest crises."
MATERIAL RESOURCES
He added that "we in the UPA
must make sure that we provide
the material resources as well,
since American Jewry is in the
only position to do It on a large
scale."
In conclusion he declared, "We
must press forward on all fronts,
political, immigration, colonization,
industrial and fund raising. Our
special job is the fund raising job.
We must in that effort try to
match what is being done Iiy the
Yishuv on other fronts."
Dr. Goldstein is visiting Jewish
communities throughout the coun-
try where he is meeting with top
communal leaders to lay the
groundwork for mobilizing full-
fledged Zionist support for the
UJA campaign.
