to Convene Here

A midwest regional conference
of the Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit
and Milwaukee chapters of the
National Lawyers Guild will be
held Saturday, April 12, at the
Book Cadillac Hotel.
The 10 a. m. panel on academic
freedom will include as speaker,
Thurgood Marshall, special coun-
sel for the National Association
for the Advancement of Colored
People.
Dr. Yuer.-11 Liang, director of
development and codification of
international law, United Nations,
will be luncheon speaker.
The afternoon panel on an an-
alysis of labor legislation will be
addressed by Arthur Neef, dean
of the Wayne University law
school.
At an evening meeting at 8:30,
A. L. Pomerantz, former senior
trial counsel for the prosecution
of Nazi industrialists, will speak
on "Nuremberg—Its Lessons for
America."

Winners, runners-up and third
place men In the State AAU Hand-
ball Doubles Tournament were
awarded trophies at a banquet
last Saturday, sponsored by the
Jewish Community Center, where
the tournament was held.
The trophies, which consisted of
cups and medals, were donated by
Frank FitzGerald, Circuit Court
Commissioner, who has continued
his interest in athletics since 1919
when he was captain of the Uni-
versity of Detroit's football team.
Dr. Milton. Lappin and Leo
Dressler receved the winners' tro-
phies. Others were awarded to
runners-up, John Scropis and Paul
Stobbe, and third place men, Stil-
son Ashe and Carl Koch. All win-
ners represented the Downtown
YMCA.
This year's 11th annual tourna-
ment had the greatest number of
entries ever recorded, with 37
pairs competing in the week-long
playoff.
The tournament was supervised
by the Jewish Community Cen-
ter handball committee, of which
Dr. Leon Katzin and Sol Camden
are chairmen.
