Friday, April 4, 1947 DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle World News in Brief 144,000 Jewish DP's Appeal to Big Four Rallies at 100 Camps Rap Injustice, Ask Opening of Palestine Gates MUNICH (WNS) — Simultaneous mass meetings to protest "great injustices" were held by 144,000 displaced Jews in nearly 100 camps and cities in the American occu- pation zone in Germany this week. The mass meetings were sponsored by the Jewish Central Committee of Germany, which urged the Big Four conference in Moscow to consider the displaced persons problem. The Jews unanimously agreed to back the Central Committee's appeal to the foreign minister's meeting, urging (1) the immedi- ate liquidation of an estimated 0 Jewish DP camps in the Amer- can zone (2) the handing over to international authority juris- diction over displaced Jews (3) the opening of Palestine's gates to the whole Jewish DP population and (4) the payment of reparations from the German economy for all personal losses suffered by the displaced Jews during the war. In the resolutions the Jews drafted to be presented to the Big Four, the Jews declared "We can- not revive all the dead. But when at the conference you speak of the reparations that Germany must pay her victims, we think you will remember also that we lost everything." 0 racial and political persecutees will probably ra• lain an unsolved mystery. A protest meeting at the Uni- versity of Munich, called by Dr. Philip Auerbach, commissioner for racial and political persecutees voiced regret that two years after the destruction of the Nazi war machine, the spirit of National Socialism is still alive. * • Persecutee Office Bombing Unsolved MUNICH (JTA)—The bombing last week of the Nuremberg office of the Bavarian commission for European News in Capsule Form Larry Paige Booked for Dance at Center WARSAW (JTA) — Rudolf Hoess, former commandant of the Oswiecim death camp, on trial here, confirmed testimony that approximately 1,500,000 Jews were exterminated at Oswiecim. Three Czech journalists con- victed of collaboration with the Nazis and spreading anti-Semitic propaganda were sentenced to death. Two other defendants re- ceived 15 and 20-year jail sen- tences. The adoption this week by the Italian Constitutional Assembly of the Concordat and Lateran Pacts, establishing Catholicism as the state religion is expected to have an adverse effect on the de- velopment of Jewish education and culture in Italy." The American military court hearing charges of rioting, as- sault and interference with traffic against five displaced Jews from the nearby Reidenburg camp dis- missed some of the charges against the defendants. Joseph Neuner, supervisor at the crematorium at the Dachau concentration camp, was sen- tenced to be hanged by a military court at Dachau. Larry Paige's orchestra has been booked for the 39th holiday hop Sunday, April 13, at the Jewish Community Center, Estelle Starr Herman, chairman, has announced.
