ORT Activities

JDC Will Finance
Training Program

Coordination of all vocational
training courses for European
Jews is being made possible by
the recent agreement between the
World ORT Union, and the Joint
Distribution Committee.
Through this agreement, which
provides that ORT shall admin-
ister the training program and
that the Joint Distribution Com-
mittee shall finance it, the Jews
of Europe will have a maximum
of opporunity to learn useful in-
dustrial and agricultural trades
at a minimum of cost to the
American Jewish community.
In previous years, ORT received
its funds from welfare funds, or
through independent campaigns.
During 1947, the ORT will con-
duct no campaigns in the United
States and welfare fund support
of the vocational training pro-
grams will be given through the
United Jewish Appeal of which
the Joint Distribution Committee
is a principal constituent agency.
Present JDC activities for voca-
tional training and retraining in-
clude assistance to more than 225
training schools and other vo-
cational projects. ORT training
projects number 422. Both pro-
grams include the provision of
tools, raw materials and instruc-
tion for Jewish artisans and
craftsmen.
Detroit's contribution to these
rehabilitation projects will be
made through the 1947 Allied Jew-
ish Campaign.
