Bnai David Secures
Choir for Its Services

New Term Launched
by Farband Schools

An innovation in services for
orthodox synagogues of Detroit
has been introduced by Congre-
gation Bnai David.
A permanent choir, trained by
Dan Frohman, has been secured
by the congregation to accompany
Cantor Hyman Adler in all Friday
night and holiday services.

The three Farband Jewish Folk
Schools are admitting pupils for
the new term. The schools are at
1912 Taylor avenue, 12244 Dexter
and the Thirkell School.
Auto service has been arranged
for pupils living in distant neigh-
borhoods.
For information, call TY. 5-3365
from 2 to 7 p.m.

T.O.T. CLUB
The 100th regular meeting of the
T. 0. T. Club will be celebrated
with a dinner-dance Feb. 17. The
following officers have been in-
stalled by the club: Leo Schwartz,
president; Edward Eason, vice-
president; Ruby Sklar, treasurer;
and Abe Gurwin, secretary.

MONTREAL (JTA)—A revision of Canada's immi-
gration policy providing for the admission of a larger
number of immigrants will be announced during the next
session of Parliament which opened Jan. 30.
Details of the plan have not been revealed, but it
is understood that it represents a compromise which will

appease groups which favor an
"open door" policy, without stir-
ring resentment in those sections
of the population which insist that
anything but selective immigration
of the most limited type is un-
desirable.
Liberalizing of "our archaic Im-
migration regulations" was asked
by the Financial Post. The influ-
ential publication points out that
"without a new and massive wave
of immigration, Ca/Ian's popula-
tion, it was estimated recently,
will never get far beyond what
the original planners of this coun-
try anticipated."

such a clause would constitute
discrimination between Jews and
non-Jews. He pointed out that
Jews were now entitled to full
restitution of property taken from
them after the Anschluss.
He admitted, however, that the
Austrian government was opposed
to creation of a special Jewish
rehabilitation fund from the pro-
ceeds of heirless property.

Jewish Aide Sifts
British Possibilities

LONDON (JTA)—An announce-
ment by the British government
that it is considering the admis-
sion of displaced persons into
England to ease the manpower
shortage, has prompted Jewish or-
ganizations here to send a special
representative to the British zone
in Germany to establish the num-
ber of displaced Jews there able
and willing to qualify.
The number of displaced Jews
who will be admitted will be
small. The type of workers needed
is limited chiefly to persons be-
tween 18 and 35 years. The Jew-
ish Committee for Relief Abroad
is not certain whether many of
the displaced Jews would be wil-
ling to prejudice their chances of
eventually being admitted to Pal-
estine by agreeing to move to
England.

`Jews His Best Pals'
Plea Fails Fascist

PRAGUE (INNS) — Georg e
Stribrny, who has the dubious dis-
tinction of having been the first
Czech newspaper publisher to car-
ry anti-Semitic propaganda after
the formation of the republic, was
sentenced to life imprisonment as
a traitor after a futile plea for
mercy that "some of my best
friends were Jews."

TEL AVIV (Special)—All Jewish
deportees who are being returned
to Palestine from Cyprus are being
examined with X-ray at the Athlit
camp to detect tubercular cases
for immediate treatment in the
Histadrut's Kupat Holim institu-
tions. The X-ray machine, a gift
of the Palestine Histadrut cam-
paign in America, also examined
3,000 Jewish workers during the
past week in conjunction with a
nationwide health drive among
industrial workers.
Histadrut will mobilize several
hundred teachers and professionals
to give individual attention to the
Cyprus immigrants, who cannot be
reabsorbed into Palestine life im-
mediately because of their run-
down conditions developed during
years of Ghetto and concentration
camp life aggravated by conditions
on the frail transport vessels that
brought them to Palestine.
