Calls Slaugther of Europe's Jews
`Worst Crime in History of Man'

WARSAW (WNS)—Ludwig Fischer, Nazi governor
who directed the murder of hundreds of thousands of
Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto renounced the Nazi theory
of racial superiority as he faced a war criminal trial and
decried the Nazi slaughter of Europe's Jews as "the
most horrible crime in the history of mankind and a

shame to German culture and
civilization."
Fischer, who last week denied
he was responsible for many of
the atrocities perpetrated in the
Warsaw Ghetto, stated that when
he saw what was being done to
the Warsaw Jews he begged "to
be relieved of his post and sent
to the front."
This statement was refuted by
a Jewish witness, Mieczylaw Masz-
lanko, who testified that Fischer
exceeded even the orders issued
to him by the governor-general of
Poland in inflicting "the most bar-
barous punishment on the Jews."
In the meantime, it was an-
nounced that the Polish govern-
ment had removed from the Cath-
olic Church in Leczyca, near Lodz,
a ritual murder painting. The pic-
ture, which depicted bearded Jews
murdering a child for "ritual" pur-
poses, had been displayed in the
church for many years and had
served as a stimulus for anti-
Jewish propoganda.

British Fascists
Threaten Buntings

LONDON (JTA) —British fasc-
ists, engaged in a war of nerves
against the Jewish population, have
threatened to attack synagogues
in London, it was learned this
week.
The Hampstead, Edgware, Cat-
ford and New West End Syna-
gogues received telephonic threats
warning that the structures would
bc either blown up or burnt down.
One of the new fascist groups—
Union for British Freedom—held
a meeting this week at Edgware,
at which Victor Burgess, who was
detained during the war as a
"dangerous person," suggested that
four British Jews should be flog-
ged publicly for every Briton
whipped in Palestine.

This base relief of Jacob IL Schiff, the
centennial of whose birth was observed
Jan. 10, occupies a place in the lobby of
'the 92nd Street Y5IA in New York City
as a reminder of the debt which the Jew-
ish center movement owes him. To the
right is a photo of the Y5IIIA's first
building which was donated by that great
patrols of Jewish learning who was the
spiritual father of the National Jewish
Welfare Board.

ROME (JTA)—Irgun Zvai Le-
uml leaflet bombs exploded in
Rome and Venice this week, and
the chief of the Rome political
police has taken over personal
supervision of the case in an at-
tempt to apprehend those re-
sponsible.
The Rome bomb exploded near
the Palace of Justice showering
the area with leaflets reading:
"The vanguard of the secret Jew-
ish Army of Liberation, with head-
quarters in Italy, will attack the
British forces until a Jewish state
is restored within the historic
boundaries of our country."

Harry Goodman of The Shoe
Center, 35 West Grand River, has
just returned from a trip to New
York where he reports he made
some excellent purchases on high
grade nationally advertised ladies'
shoes.
One of these purchases includes
a group of shoes for southern
wear such as cloths, raffles and
whites.
"The trend for Florida wear
this year," says Goodman, "seems
to be high platform shoes. Most
of the shoes we sell are of that
type."
