RABBI WEINSTEIN IS the scion of a rabbinical heritage that
is traceable to the Toldoth Yaakov Yosef, famous Chassidic rabbi who
was a contemporary of the saintly Baal Shem Tow. His parents are
natives of Palestine, but they have been residents of the United
States for a quarter of a century. Their son was born in Chambers-
burg, Pa.
Chaim's first inclination toward the rabbinate came very early
when at the age of eight he delivered an extemporaneous address
at the Bar Mitzvah of his brother. Later he won a speaking con-
test while still in grammar school by reciting from memory one
of the lengthy letters that Aboabanel sent to his father while on
a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
In 1940 he left home for the Mesifta Torah Vodaas in New York
before entering high school. Illness forced him, however, to return
to Buffalo to complete his schooling. He continued his Hebrew studies
under the supervision of his father and brother David (now in the
pulpit of the Batavia, N. Y. congregation). In high school he con-
tinued to win honors In forensics and dramatics.

HE CAME TO DETROIT in 1943 to enter the newly-founded Ye-
shivath Chachmey Lublin, and has been a student there ever since.
He attended Wayne University in the evenings to fill in the require-
ments in secular studies.
He is continuing to attend the sessions at the Yeshivah to com-
plete his training for higher ordination.
Rabbi Weinstein first conducted services and occupied a pulpit
in Braddock, Pa. in 1944. Later he conducted services in McKeesport,
Pa. Last year, he was in the pulpit of the Bnai Abraham Congrega-
tion, one of the largest in Buffalo.
Active In organizational work in Detroit while still at the Yeshi-
vah, he has 'wiped set up Young Israel Sabbath groups and led the
final David branch for a year. Recently he organized the Beth Aaron
branch of Young Israel.
He joined the faculty of Yeshivah Beth Ychudah here in the
fall but was forced to leave upon his election as rabbi at Beth Aaron
