Sunday at the Center

NEW YORK (JTA)—The accel-
erated cultural growth of the Jew-
ish community of Argentina dur-
ing the past five years was d&-
scribed here by Moshe Schenderel,
president of the Chevreh Kadishe,
the leading Jewish communal
group in Argentina.
Schenderel, who has come to
this country to promote better cul-
tural contacts between the 600,000
Jews of Latin America and Amer-
ican Jewry, cited the existence of
several Yiddish language dailies
and many periodicals as evidence
that the Jews in Argentina are
vitally interested in Jewish cul-
ture.
Pointing out that his organiza-
tion, which has a membership of
35,000, has already made arrange-
ments for a regular annual visit
of a leading American Jewish cul-
tural figure to lecture to Argen-
tine Jewish groups, Schenderei
called for a regular exchange of
informed Jewish lecturers.
Speaking of anti-Semitism in
his country, he said that while
he had no wish to deny its ex-
istence, he believed that the Ar-
gentine people were democratic.
He asserted that the Jews of Ar-
gentine had never participated in
public, life to any great extent,
therefore they were not alarmed
by the recent dismissals of Jew-
ish public officials, teachers and
doctors.

Leaders in the services division
of the Detroit Service Group who
were prominent in Allied Jewish
Campaign activities have been in-
vited to a bruncheon at 11:30 a. m.
Sunday in the Ginsburg Lounge
of the Jewish Community Center.
Provisional chairmen of the di-
vision, which will consider plans
for year-round organization, are
Fred A. Ginsburg and Lester La-
pides.
Five of the major divisions of the
Detroit Service Group have al-
ready formed permanent organiza-
tions and elected officers. These
include: the Mercantile Division,
Max Osnos, chairman; Food Ser-
vice Council, Max Schayowitz,
chairman; Professional Division,
Isadore Levin, chairman; Mechan-
ical Trades Division, Max D.
Schuster, chairman; and Real
Estate and Building Council, Louis
Berry, chairman.

COL. MILTON RICIIMAN, left, of Hartford, Conn., is shown being
greeted by Major Maxwell Cohen of Boston, whom he succeeds as
national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United
States. Col. Richman, who saw combat in Normandy and Ger-
many with Gen. Patton's Third Army, was attached to the War
Trials Commission after the Nazi surrender.
