Immediately after the court's
ruling, the three British trans-
ports, on which the nearly 4,000
Jews who arrived last week
aboard the Knesseth Israel had
been confined since Tuesday, sailed
for Cyprus. They had been cruis-
ing in territorial waters for 48
hours awaiting the court's verdict.
Two Jews were killed in a battle
with British soldiers aboard the
vessel.
(According to reports from Cyp-
rus the disembarkation of the im-
migrants took three days, com-
mencing Saturday morning and
ending Monday night. A baby girl
was born during the journey from
Haifa).

NEW YORK—The annual con-
vention of the Junior Mizrachi
Women's Organization of America
heard Judge Daniel Gutman,
Brooklyn Municipal Judge, declare
that "every civilized human being
should resent the fact that the
Jews in Palestine are still being
subjected to treatment that is ac-
corded to enemies rather than to
allies."
A financial resolution provided
for a $50,000 budget with an. al-
location of $10,000 each for a new
children's home in Palestine, and
for the building of a nursery in
the Mizrachi women's children's
village at Raanana, Palestine.
'SECURITY PERILED'
The decision said that the de-
portations were within the author-'
ity of the high commissioner, not
only because the immigrants had
no visas, but also because their
landing would be prejudicial to
public security.
The courtroom was surrounded

Palestine Struggle

Histadrut Speaker
Visited Settlements

Helen Waren, American dra-
matic star, who has just returned
from Palestine, will bring an eye-
witness account of what is going
on in Palestine to the Detroit Jew-
ish community at a luncheon
meeting, at noon Thursday, in the
Hotel Statler. The meeting is ar-
ranged by the Detroit Palestine
Histadrut Committee.
Miss Waren, a Broadway actress
who went overseas as a USO per-
former was one of the first civi-
lians to enter Germany after V-E
Day. The grim horror she found
there, forced her, despite an utter
lack of resources, into single-
handedly smuggling Jews out of
Germany into Italy, where they
were given further help by mem-
bers of the Jewish Brigade.

TELLS OF BRIGADE WORK

Upon her return from Europe,
she brought a stirring message
from these Jews and an account
of the unpublicized rescue work
of the Jewish Brigade.
She returned to Europe and in
July, 1946 accompanied a boat load
of JeWish refugees who were de-
termined to enter Palestine. In
Palestine she was welcomed by the
leaders of the Jewish community
who knew of her efforts on be-
half of the Zionist cause.
Miss Waren spent considerable
time visiting the Histadrut agri-
cultural settlements where the
majority of all newly arrived im-
migrants are nursed back to
health and are given the oppor-
tunities to become absorbed into
the social .and economic life of
the country.

The Jewish Community Council
this week denied allegations of
wholesale anti-Semitic vandalism
in a Jewish neighborhood made
in a recent issue of Time maga-
zine. The council, through Aaron
Droock, president, issued the fol-
lowing statement to clarify the
situation:
"In a recent issue, a news week-
ly of national circulation carried
the report that during the Hallo-
ween season, 41 Kosher butcher
shops in Detroit were vandalized.
The damage consisted of the scar-
ring of windows with acid.
4 INCIDENTS REPORTED
"Because of the incorrect im-
pressions fostered by the inac-
curacy of this report and in the
interest of making the facts
known, the Community Council
advises that in actuality only four
instances of such vandalism were
known to have occurred this year.
"During Halloween of 1945, 22
Jewish owned establishments were
molested. Following this series of
incidents, the staff of the Com-,
munity Council conferred with
John F. Ballenger, commissioner
of Police. He pledged full coopera-
tion of the police department in
preventing a recurrence of these
incidents.
Shortly before the recent Hallo-
ween, the police department again
promised complete cooperation.
Extra protection, accordingly, was
made available to the Jewish area
on Halloween night. We acknowr-
edge the splendid cooperation of
the local police.
ARTICLE MISLEADING
"The innuendos of the magazine
article were misleading in that no
witnesses reported seeing more
than one car involved, although
the magazine article mentioned
that the vandals "drove cars with
license plates covered." There is,
likewise, no present evidence that
these incidents" were the results
of a "well organized" plan as
stated in the magazine item.
"The police department is ex-
tending every facility to appre-
hend the guilty parties."
