Rabbi Reuben Weinstein of Buf-
falo, N.Y., will install his son as
the first spiritual director of Beth
Aaron in a ceremony set for 6:30
p. m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the syna-
gogue hall, Wyoming and Thatcher
avenues.
Rabbi Joshua Sperlta will open
a series of lectures of the Beth
Aaron Men's Club at 8:30 p. m.
Thursday.
Committees have been appointed
by Paul Carpenter, club president,
for the group's first annual dinner-
dance.
Over 300 persons attended a
luncheon shower of the sisterhood
Nov. 19. Helen Raisin was chair-

Mizrachi Elects
Schlussel Again

Twenty members of Young Israel
groups left Thursday to attend the
first postwar Midwest convention
of Young Israel which closes Sun-
day in Cincinnati.
The delegation includes Rabbi
and Mrs. Alvin M. Poplack, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles T. Gellman, Sam-
uel W. Platt, David I. Berris. Je-
rome Kalman, Ruth Bodzin, Fran-
ces Berris, Ethel Framovitz, Eva
Poss, Florence Sleeper, Hillel
Abrams, Arnold Cohen, Harold
Platt, Daniel Schwartz, Joe Wein-
man, Shirley Katz, Deborah Le-
vine and Ester Marx. The last
three named represent the Kadi-
mah Girls.
The Detroiters will report on
plans for the new Young Israel
center, building of which is about
to start.
An intensive drive is being con.
ducted among members of the or-
ganization and its friends for
funds to push construction of the
building.
The center, which will be lo-
cated at Dexter boulevard and
Fullerton will ultimately cost over
$100,000. Construction of the first
floor was authorized by the CPA
last week.

Detroit Mizrachl has re-elected
Irving W. Schlussel as Its presi-
dent, Sol Chinitz, Ben Zieve and
Aaron Tilchin were named vice-
presidents, and Meyer Beckman,
treasurer.
The following in addition will
serve on the board:

Sperka and M. J. Wohlgelernter
and Jacob Hoberman, Israel Le-
vinson, Morris Mohr, Dr. Moses
Wiser, Sol B. Edelman, David

man. Daniel Temchin was chosen
honorary president.
At the recent national conven-
tion of Mizrachi, Schlussel was
selected as one of the members of
the board of the Mizrachi Organi-
zation of America.
The local Mizrachl has eight
synagogues on its rolls and a drive
is under way to enroll the others.
The Idols of the Market Place,"
is the title of the message to be
delivered by Rabbi Eliezer A. Levi
of Congregation Bnai Moshe, at
late Friday evening services Dec. 6.
Prayers will begin at 8:15 p. m.

The sisterhood will hold a lunch-
eon-meeting at 12:30 p.m. Monday,
Dec. 9. Mrs. I. E. Goodman is

NW Sisterhood to Hear Review

The Sisterhood of the Northwest
Hebrew Congregation will meet in
the social hall at 8 p. m. Wednes-
day, Dec. 4.
Mrs. Bess Stenbuck, vice presi-
dent of the Sisterhood of Temple
Beth Jacob, Pontiac, will review
the stories of "Sholom Aleichem"
with emphasis on those pertaining
to Chanukah.
A sketch symbolical of the Cha-
nukah celebration will be enacted
by the following: Louise Miller,
Elaine Rothman, Carol Bloom,
Louise Helfgott, Irene Dresser, Be-
ulah Franzblau, Beverly Hartsteln,
Elsie Kuffler and Marcia .Haidy.
Arrangements are being com-
pleted for the donor luncheon Jan.

fair. The program will feature a
speaker, a musical trio and a

held at 8:30 p. m. Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal will speak on, "A Miracle
in Our Time", Dec. 6. He will
trace the story of the rebirth of
the modern Hebrew language. A

This Saturday morning, Nov. 30,
Rabbi Segal's sermon subject will
be: "What Are You Thankful
For?"
, The Junior Congregation meets
for its own regular Sabbath serv-
ice at 9:30 a. m. in the small
chapel. Boys and girls 10 to I§ are
invited.
The pulpit of Temple Beth El
will be occupied at 8:15 p.m. Fri-
day, Dec. 6, by Dr. Walton , E.
Cole,, minister of the First Con-
gregational Church.
Dr. Glazer will be in Glencoe,
Ill. where he will address the
North Shore Congregation Israel
and in Chicago, where he will be
the speaker at a combined service
of all the South Side reform con-
gregations.
Dr. Glazer is one of 40 leading
rabbis who have been named by
the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations to visit communi-
ties throughout the country on
the American Jewish Cavalcade,
a preaching revival mission.

Relief 'Group
Praised for' Its
Aid to Europe
Several messages of thanks have
been received from abroad by the
Women's Emergency•Relief Com-
mittee for its help to Jewish ref-
ugees.
"We are deeply grateful for
your parcels. Everything came in
fine order," wrote Mrs. S. Arano-
witz of Paris.
The committee is intensifying its
efforts to send more packages
overseas. Officials said that the
great need at present is for cash
donations to defray expense of
postage.
They have suggested that or-
ganizations put on showers to aid
in this connection. individuals may
adopt a family and send monthly
parcels at a cost of $10 and over,

Parenthood Plans

3,200 of the nation's religious lead-
ers, accorang to the Rev. Henry
Hitt Crane of Detroit.
The resolution, whose Signers in-
clude Rabbis Leo M. Franklin and
Morris Adler and 127 other clergy-
men from Michigan cities, is spon-
sored by the National Clergymen's
Advisory Council of the Planned
Parenthood Federation of America,
Inc.
The document indorses the •osi-
tion of the Federal Council of
Churches on the "elementary im-
portance of planned babies for
the health and security of the
family" and calls upon Protestant
and Jewish clergymen to "exercise
a fundamental democratic right"
and insist that child-spacing serv-
ices be made available to all who
desire them.
"The Michigan and Detroit

literary award made by the Louis
Lamed Foundation for literature
in both languages.
The two Yiddish winners are H.
Leivick, for his book of poems "I
Was Not At Trablinka," and S.
Petrushka, or his Yiddish transla-
tion of the Mishnah.
Dr. Chaim Tchernowitz was
awarded the prize for his Hebrew
book of essays "The Sages of Odes-
sa." Each of the 'writers received
a prize of $400.
