THAT 300 GAME Phillip Robin-
son bowled in the Bnai Brith
Metropolitan League recently was
almost inevitable. Two weeks pre-
viously, he had blasted eight in a
row before
blowing up in
the ninth for a
264. Four years
ago, he had
rolled 10 strikes
before missing
In the eleventh.
The strike king
had to settle for
289 on that oc-
casion.
Robinson said
he wasn't nervous until he went
after strike number 10. After he
had gotten past that, he felt his
luck would see him through. And
it did.
Strangely enough, Robinson
rolled his perfect game in the
place where he started in league
competition eight years ago. To
add to this 01(1 twist, he had not
visited the Rolawile Recreation
in the seven-year interim be-
tween then and the current sea-
son.
As far as is known, this was
the first time anyone has ever
bowled 300 in Detroit Bnai Brith
competition. Many believe Robin-
son is the first Bnai Brith leaguer
in the country to accomplish this
feat.
Last year, he finished second
among keglers with a 185 average.

ONE OF COACH Don Fitch's
lieutenants on the Central High
football staff is somewhat of a
novelty. Unlike others, he is not
a member of the school's faculty.
Mort Kanfer, a graduate of North-
western High and a guard on
Wayne University's football squads
of '41 and '42, is gaining experi-
ence as a mentor by pouring fun-
damentals at the Trailblazers' line-
men when his daily chores as a
physical education instructor at
Cerveny Intermediate are done.
Central's forward wall this year
is tough and' high-spirited, which
speaks well for Kanfer.

WWJ to tell Story
by Sholom Aleichem

"The Pocketknife," a radio play
by Joseph Mindel based on the
story by Sholom Aleichem, will be
presented on the Eternal Light
program at 12:30 p. m., Sunday,
over WW1 This Is the third in a
series of Sholom Aleichem stories
adapted for broadcast this fall on
the Eternal Light.
"The Pocketknife" is an inci-
dent in Sholom Aleichem's child-
hood. While exploring the. room
of a new boarder at his home, ho
discovers and takes a beautiful
pearl-handled pocketknife, some-
thing he has always dreamed of
having.
The mental anguish he suffers
because of his theft and the love
showered on him by his parents,
even after he confesses, teaches
him that true happiness does not
lie in material possessions.
