world. They face bitterness, dis-
pair, shabby treatment. Perhaps
the world has not learned why
war is fought.

Perhaps the war was not fought
to uproot dictatorship, wherever
found; perhaps it was not fought
to assure all humans the respect
and decency due one human from
another.

Judge Guy A. Miller
Sends His Greetings

I WISH TO EXTEND the best
wishes of the season to you and
your readers.
The hope of all peoples is the
settlement of all global problems
in the next year. Among these
goals is peace in Palestine. Our
sympathy for the hardships en-
dured by the refugees is ex-
pressed with a sincere wish for
justice and a fair settlement of
the controversy.
Hopes and desires should not
rest on thought alone, we must
strive by deed and prayer for
a peaceful and righteous solu-
tion of existing plight.
(Signed)
GUY A. MILLER,
Circuit Judge

We sit in our appointed places
in the synagogue and pray for
ourselves, for the Nation, for the
world. We repeat the traditional
chants and messages of hope. But
I am confused by the substitution

values to whichever group finds
them important.

But it disturbs me no end that
some of us lose sight of the fact
that we are all Jews and must
act as Jews. It disturbs me to
be regarded as an outcast by
some of my fellow Jews because
they attend one form of worship
and I another.

Great injustices have been

May we, with the New Year,

Yes, this Rosh Hashonah is
different from those of the past
past five years. What will we
do with it? Will we be better
Jews, better Americans, betttcr
citizens of the world because of
our experience? Will we forgo
bonds of unity by the joining of
many hands? Alone, my hands
are weak. Alone, your hands are
human in their weakness. But
all of our hands, together, can
perform miracles. Arc we to be
together?

Formerly of Prairie Farmer

To refute charges frequently made that American cor-
respondents are not permitted tc travel freely in Soviet
Russia, John Strohm, now president of the American
Agricultural Editors' Association, was given every oppor-
tunity to report on conditions in cities, villages and farms.
He came back with a series of illustrated articles that are
almost unique in Russia-American press experience be-
cause he went where he wished and wrote what he saw
without being officially guided.

Not only that but he took four cameras along. Other
radio and news correspondents were amazed and envious.
Now The News brings you views and news of what lies
behind the Soviet Iron Curtain!
