THE CASANOVA, by the way,

has been pleasing a flock of the
old Latin-Quarter .and Lee 'n'
Eddie crowds who've been wan-
dering around trying to "light"
somewheres since those places
closed. )
They are very happy with the
smooth dance floor and smoother
music and the quality of the food
and service. Sammy Chiado makes
an excellent host.

I'D GO A MILLION miles for a
dish of that lusctia chicken pap.
rlkash that Gen /B lumen th a I
serves at the -Ifungarian Village
out W. Jefferson way not saying
a word about the other numer-
ous delightful dishes.
Whatever your choice it's sure
to be a taste thriller, a definite
proof that this spot's fine dining
reputation is not just idle talk.
Along with it goes the melodic
old-world music by Ziggy and his
Gypsy Orchestra.
•
"CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS"
is Joe Lewis' reputation and his
brother Lonnie keeps a close sec-
ond with him in boasting the
champion of black and tan res-
taurants.
"If you like real good southern
cookin' ", he says, "this is the
place for you."
Lottsa white folks go there and
that's no jive, 'cause I've been

there and I know. It's the Brown
Bomber Chicken Shack on Ver.
nor and Brush. You'll usually
find Mathew Sampson with his
broad-good-natured grin greeting
you at the door.
It's 6 p.m. opening with 4 a.m.
closing every day 'ceptin' Satur•
day and Sunday when they open
at 1 p.m, and close as usual.
There's a piano at your disposal
if you're so inclined.

ALWAYS A GOOD spot to drop
in for a quick drink during the
day or to spend an evening is
the Book Bar on Michigan (opp.
the Book-Cadiliac Hotel).
Those in the cast of any of
the current shows at either the
Cass or Lafayette Theatres who
imbibe, can be seen almost any
evening between scenes at this
cozy place. Edmund Lowe, Ted
Fiorita, Mary Bryant were recent
visitors.

GET IN YOUR CAR and drive
out a ways to River Rouge and
the Club Top Hat. The policy of
a headline name act surrounded
by a good fast moving show is
proving quite successful. The mu-
sic for dancing is good, the at-
mosphere conducive to a gay
mood. What more can one ask
for.
Lovely and
talented Marian
Frances, Colum-
bia network ra-
dio and stage
star, holds the
spotlight at Top
Hat Club this
week after
completing a 4
week engage-
ment at Chica-
go Theater followed by 16 weeks
at the windy city's Chez Farce.
Also out in that direction on
Charles St. is the River Rouge
Show Bar. There's never a dull
moment.
And you just "aint-a-kidding"
when you say there's never a dull
moment at the Barbary Coast on
Grand River, not too far from
downtown. Jimmy Gargano and

his Orchestra have been there win-
ning their way into the hearts of
the frequenters for a number of
years and from the looks of
things are destined to stay a good
many more.
It's a jumping-jive spot and
I'm not foolin' a bit.
•
THE CLUB ARTURO specializes
in good Italian dishes. The steaks
and chops served in this very
smartly decorated spot are equal-
ly as palatable. Augmented with
your favorite drink from the bar,
it's a place you'll enjoy coming to
from time to time.
•

"IT MAKES MY BLOOD boil",
says Mrs. Esther Scott of Scott's
Bar on Telegraph Rd. "when I
hear any intolerant talk around
here." And from what I hear she
"tells them off" in no uncertain
terms.

be remembered
for his equally
famous Club

Powatan and even that far back
was known from coast to coast as
the host of hosts. Always on the
alert for what's best for his
guests in entertainment as well
as food, Sammy has two bands
in full swing— The ever-popular
Frank Gegen who features lovely
Eileen Faye and Aylene Mason as
vocalists.
Fritz Kingsland brags about
Wanda Rio vocalizing. Those of
you who like to rhumba will find
the Wonder Bar on Monday nites
a veritable paradise. That's what
has become popularly known as
Rhumba Nite.
Some of the staff of the Ar-
thur Murray Dancers are usually
on hand and what you can't learn
about the Rhumba and Zomba
just from watching them isn't
worth knowing.

a lot of things but honest I don't AND NOW TO THE OTHER ex.

know just how soon the Latin
Quarter will open. I get so many
calls asking me just that and ac-

that very bedutiful nitery will
open very soon.

The management cannot answer
your questions either. They are
pleased to note, however, that so
many people are interested. Inci-
dentally they want to thank the
many of our people and organiza-
tions who have patronized them
in the past and sincerely hope
that they will be in a position to
serve you all again soon.
