Will Pick Delegates
to U.S. Convention

An open meeting of the Detroit'
Zionist district will be held at
8:30 p. m. Sept. 30, at Shaarey
Zedek to elect delegates to the
national Zionist convention.
Members who wish to attend the
convention are asked to notify the
Zionist office. It will be held on
Oct. 25 in Atlantic City.
In a statement on the Zionist
Expansion Fund drive Morris M.
Jacobs, president of the Detroit
district, declared:
"We must stir up American pub-
lic opinion against Britain's cruel
policy in Palestine. Our cause must
be brought to the attention of the
public through radio, newspaper
advertising and other publicity
projects.
"Let us contribute generously to
the funds being raised for this
purposes.
"Help mobilize public opinion on
behalf of Palestine Jewry.
"Checks should be made payable
to the Zionist Organization, and
sent to the Zionist office, 1044
Penobscot Bldg."

NEW YORK.—The latest devel-
opments affecting Palestine have
heightened the interest in the
forthcoming annual convention of
the ZOZA's four-day session in
Atlantic City on Oct. 25, accord-
ing to reports received from Zion-
ist districts and regions in every
part of the country.
More than 1,000 delegates, rep-
resenting GOO Zionist units in 48
states and U. S. possessions, in-
cluding Hawaii and Alaska, will
attend the sessions.

Rosh Hashonah
Brought Closer to
Vets in Hospital

The Infants' Service Group
brought Rosh Hashonah closer to
Jewish convalescents at Percy
Jones Hospital when they present-
ed them with individual wrapped
boxes consisting of herring, small
pumpernickels, salami, pickles,
honey cakes, nuts and raisins.
Mrs. Morris Shepherd, post war
chairman, directed the project
with the assistance of Mrs. Jack
Freeman, co-chairman.

and economic expert on Pales-
tine, is shown here addressing
a group of New York Jewish
leaders at a recent dinner in his
honor. He will speak in Detroit
on Oct. 21 at an open dinner of
the Central Committee of the
Labor Zionist Organization.

The significance of Yom Kippur
will be explained over two pro-
grams on WWJ Saturday and Sun-
day, Sept. 28 and 29.
At 5:45 p.m. Saturday, the choir
of Temple Israel will present mu-
sic from the Yom Kippur liturgy.
The choir will be conducted by
Dan Frohman and Karl W. Haas
will accompany on the organ. •
Rabbi Leon Fram will be the
narrator and he will introduce the
music and tell the story of the
Day of Atonement.
Rabbi Joshua Sperka of Con-
gregation Bnai David will deliver
a Yom Kippur message of 11:30
a. m. Sunday. Cantor Hyman Ad-
ler of Bnai David will sing selec-
tions from the sacred music of
the day.

JERUSALEM—Defying the Pal-
estine government, Jewish muni-
cipalities and local councils
throughout the country this week
pledged an initial $150,000 towards
the $400,000 fund being raised by
the Jewish National Council to
finance Jewish immigration into
Palestine, &Spite official restric-
tions.
After adopting a resolution voic-
ing its determination not to re-
lax the struggle against the White
Paper and for increased immigra-
tion, the Tel Aviv municipal coun-
cil voted to appropriate an initial
installment of $100,000 towards the
immigration fund. It will be fin-
anced by a one per cent tax on
all rentals.

WARSAW (JTA).—As a re-
sult of continued terrorism in Po-
land, several hundred Polish Jews
who were repatriated from the
USSR have applied to the Soviet
consulate in Warsaw for re-ad-
mission to Russia, it was learned
here this week.
