face smiled happiness which
quickly turned to fear.
"Oh, Benny," she sighed as she
put her arms around the boy.
"You shouldn't have come. They're
still looking for you."
Benny kissed her bent head.

safe. Mama will give you some
holiday cake and wine to take
with you and then you must go
back to wherever you're staying."
"Oh Papa!" said Becky. "He's
here now. Let him stay for a lit-
tle supper. The poor boy isn't
eating right. Look how thin he
is!" she eyed her husky son sadly.
Benny laughed. "Oh, I'm eating
all right, Mama. But a holiday
supper should be eaten with one's
family." He turned to his father.
"No one saw me, Pop, I was very
careful."
His father shook his head.
"No, honestly, Pop, no one saw
me. But if I go back now, maybe
I won't be so lucky. I thought I'd
stay here till about two or three
in the morning when everyone's
asleep. It will be safer then. Now
it will be more dangerous."
Solomon looked sternly at his
son. "You shouldn't have come,
Benny. It was very foolish. They
have a price on your head! You
must stay away for a while."
"Sure, Pop. Only I'm here now."
Solomon shrugged his shoulders.
He got up and walked over to a
cabinet on which stood a bottle
of wine and glasses. He gave a
glass of the wine to Benny and
Becky and took one for himself.
Lifting it high, he said with a
twisted grin on his face, "Next
year, Jerusalem."
"Where are the girls?" asked
Benny, drinking the wine.
"In the kitchen, where I should
be if we want to cat tonight,"
said his mother. She patted the
