5706-YEAR OF VIOLENCE AND BETRAYAL

These devoted disciples of Hitler
and Mussolini became the favor.
ites of the Socialist British gov.
ernment. The arch enemy of the
Allied cause, the Grand Mufti of
Jerusalem, who openly cooperated
with the Axis, is residing in a
Royal Palace in Egypt.

FEW WEEKS before the year Destruction Reflects British Perfidy
A A 5706
was ushered in, the deadly

and destructive struggle of the
nations of the •world came to an
end. The victory of the forces
fighting for human decency and
freedom was a conclusive one.
The Jewish people who suffered
most severely from the onslaught
of the evil forces expected at least
some humane treatment from our
comrades-in-arms which would
bring some solace to our wounded
souls.
Our hopes were especially height.
ened when, in the first national
° elections in Great Britain imme-
diately after the end of the war,
the Socialist Labor Party emerged
victorious. This party had had a
plank in its platform pledging its
definite support of a Jewish Corn.
monwealth in Palestine.
The spokesmen of the Labor
Party were very radical in their
pre-election addresses, proposing
the transfer of the Arab popu-
lation in Palestine to the neigh-
boring Arabic countries in order
to make more room for the suf-
ering Jewish people. The Zionist
leaders objected to this proposal,
maintaining that there w a s
room in Palestine for both na-
tions.

Ile mobilized legions of Mos-
letns in the Balkans and in
North Africa to fight against
the Allies and he was the inl-
tinter of the diabolic plan to
destroy the Jewish population of T.,, ),1
Europe.

How right was Dr. Weizmann
when he said that, while the sin.
ister enemy of the Allies resides
comfortably in a palace, Moshe
Shertok, who was responsible for
the mobilization of 25,000 Jewish
volunteers to fight for the Allies,
is now under arrest in a concen-
tration camp in Palestine.

JEWS STILL IN CAMPS

THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT
keeps the doors of Palestine closed
and the remnants of our people
are still In concentration camps
on the cursed German soil which
is soaked with the blood of mil-
lions of our dear ones. The Yishuv
of Palestine and the Jewish Brig.
ade helped to rescue some of them
and bring them under the most
difficult conditions to Eretz Israel,
where they were received with
brotherly love.

CHURCHILL PLEDGE
ON THE OTHER HAND, the
leader of the Conservative party,
Winston Churchill, promised on
many occasions to Dr. Chaim
Weizmann, president of the Jew-
ish Agency, that as soon as the
war ended he would help to re.
alize the Zionist ideal. Churchill
declared himself a Zionist of old
standing and even conferred upor,
himself the title "Architect of the
Jewish Future."
And Dr. Weizmann who, in ad-
dition to his greatest contribution
to the victory of the Allies in
World War I, played an important
role in World War II producing
synthetic rubber and other essen-
tial war material. Such aid was
not all that Dr. Weizmann was
called upon to give. His oldest
son lost his life in an air battle
over Germany.
That distinguished, loyal citizen
of Great Britain had the right to
expect that a covenant entered
into by him with the government
of his country would be observed
and promises made to him by the
leaders would be kept.

YISIIUV AIDS FIGHT
IT MUST ALSO be remembered
that at the outbreak of the war
Dr. Weizmann, as president of the
Jewish Agency, pledged on behalf
of the Yishuv in Palestine that
there would be complete mobiliza-
tion of the power and resources
of the Jewish population for out
common cause with the Allies.
Ills pledge was made good in
spite of the obstacles placed by

Results of the infamous British raids on Jewish Palestine in the last three months are pictured
above. British fury was especially violent when the Tommies raided labor settlements and Histadrut
institutions in Tel Aviv. Upper left, an explosive destroyed the cylinder of a press in the DAVAR'S
printing plant; upper right, tommies blew open the door to the Workers' Bank, having refused to
use keys which were easily available; lower left, carnage in office of Israel Mereminski, secretary of
the Ilistadrut, who recently returned from a visit to the United States; lower right, rifled Jewish Na-
tional Fund box and petty cash box.

hostile administration. Tens of
thousands of Palestine youths
participated in the battles. Pal-
estine became the arsenal of the
Near East. The modern cities
and villages opened their gates
wide to the sick and weary
soldiers of the Allies, while the
Arab population there, and in
the neighboring countries, main-
tained a "neutral" hostile posi-
tion.
Our brave volunteers paid with
their lives to quell the revolts in
Iraq and in Syria, which were
aimed at stabbing the Allies in
the back while they were fighting
so desperately around Egypt and
the African deserts.
In view of this, was it too much
to expect that after the war our
just cause in Palestine would be
considered, that the scandalous
White Paper on Palestine issued
by the "appeasement" Chamber-
lain government would be rescind-

ed, that the doors of Palestine
would be opened to the remnants
of a people which lost 6,000,000
or two thirds of its civilian popu-
lation in Europe in the most bes-
tial manner ever recorded in the
history of mankind?

Jewish people to create a Jewish
Commonwealth in Palestine, were
forgotten.
Instead of doing the logical and
just thing, the British government
turned upon its loyal friends in
the Near East, the Yishuv in Pal-
estine, and played up to the Arab
League, created and nurtured by
the Colonial Office.
The leaders of the League are
Effendis, feudal landlords, oppres-
sors of the "Fellahs" and the
working masses of their countries.

PLEDGES FORGOTTEN

WHAT HAPPENED in reality
was that as soon as the new
British government settled itself
comfortably in No. 10 Downing
Street, the pledges made to the

In a short time they were eh.
sorbed into the economic life of
the land, many of them settled
in the new villages which were
created on the soil of the Jewish
National Fund.
The government of Great Brit-
ain, the keeper of the mandate
over Palestine charged with the
responsibility of resettling the
Jews in their homeland, sent its
navy and air force to prevent
the entry of the sufferers into
their home and haven, recogni-
zed as such by International law.
For months the youth of Pales-
tine carried on its struggle and
was patiently awaiting a favorable
decision, which did not come.
Their patience was exhausted
and acts of sabotage and terror
occurred, especially against the
British forces and their instru.
ments used to prevent the admis-
sion of immigrants to Palestine.
The leaders of the Zionist
movement and the majority of the
Yishuv did not approve of these
acts but they understood that the
blame rested in great measure on
the British administration, which
