Rabbi Urges UN
to Speed DP Unit

NEW YORK — Rabbi Samuel
Chill of the Kingsway Jewish
Center of Brooklyn, N. Y., who
has just returned from n tour of
"underground" Poland and the
Displaced Persons' camps in Ger-
many, urged in an interview at
the Vaad Hatzala offices, that im-
mediate action be taken to set up
the proposed refugee committee
under the UN that is to take
over the jurisdiction of the dis-
placed persons in UNRRA Camps
Dec. 31.

"If action is not taken imme-
diately," says Rabbi Chill, "the
necessary organization will not be
ready when UNRRA ceases oper-
ations, the DP's will be left be-
tween the devil and the deep blue
sea and their lot will be worse
than ever."
He says Jews are at the end of
their morale, especially with im-
migration to Palestine so problem-
atical.

Jewish Unity at Peace Parley
Acclaimed by Dr. Eisendrath

NEW YORK—The united front
achieved by Jewish organizations
at the peace conference "is of
great significance and augers well
for --the future" Dr. Maurice N.
Eisenarath, director of the Union
of American Hebrew Congrega-
tions, declared on his return to the
United States.
Dr. ' Eisendrath, who attended
the Paris parley as one of the
representatives of the American
Jewish Conference, also attended
two other important meetings
while in Europe, the first Inter-
national Conference of Christians
and Jews held at Oxford and the
first post-war meeting of the
World Union of Progressive Juda-
ism held in London.
"The unity achieved by Jewish
representatives from the United
States and other countries through-
out the world in connection with
the peace conference is of tremen-
dous significance," Dr. Eisendrath
said. We failed to do this in San
Francisco, much to our shame and
my own personal chagrin. There-
fore, I am all the more elated that
we achieved this unity in Paris.
"There was at Paris a full rea-
lization of the gravity of the Jew-
ish situation, the full impact of
which one cannot escape especially
after crossing the Atlantic. It im-
pressed itself so intimately upon
all of us that we felt that we
would be untrue to our respon-
sibilities to our fellow Jews if we
failed to transcend any organi-
zational differences by joining in
a united front.
