Declaring that the Department'
hid no statement to make, Ache-
son said that he wished to com-
ment on part of the 'charges, but
did not desire to be drawn into
a discussTon with Mr. Crum on
the whole gamut. He restricted
himself, Acheson , declared, to
Crum's assertion that the policy

Mrs. Welt Acclaims
?resident's Proposal

President Truman's proposal tc
open America's doors to more dis-
nlaced persons of Europe clearly
refutes British Foreign Secretary
Bevin's recent charge that the
United States, In pressing for in.
creased immigration to Palestine,
desires to avoid all responsibility
for the problem of Europe's home-
less Jews, it was stated this
week by Mrs. Joseph M. Welt, of
Detroit, president of the National
Council of Jewish Women.
Urging support of the proposal
by all Americans concerned with
fundamental justice, Mrs. Welt
characterized the President's ac-
tion as the assumption of moral
leadership on t Is e world.widc
problem of providing havens for
the dispossessed Jews of Europe.
