Britain Assails
Barker Statement

LONDON (JTA) -The British
government after a cabinet meet-
ing at which Gen. Evelyn Barker's
non-fraternization order was dis-
cussed this week disassociated it-
self from the language used In
the order. The announcement was
made by Herbert Morrison, gov-
ernment spokesman in Commons,
during the Palestine debate.
The Daily Herald, organ of the
Labor Party, bitterly assailed the
Barker statement. The paper said
that it is "almost incredible that
words so reckless could have been
issued. by a responsible comman-
der. If he wrote it," the news-
paper continued, "Barker has dem-
onstrated overwhelmingly his un-
fitness for his command."
The Communist Daily Worker
declared that Colonial Office offi-
cials held anxious consultation 4
after the publication of Barker's
anti-Semitic letter
