With Sally

With the tumult of the Bnai
Brith convention somewhat sub-
sided and things getting a bit
back to normal, we'll have to get
back to the highlighta of the
wee k's activi-
ties. First, how-
ever, there are
a few people
who deserve
mention for
their very, very
fine part they
played in malt.
ing the DGL6
convention a
Sally Fields
memorable one.
There was Dr. Larry Yaff a, who
was in charge of arrangements
(and what a job that was!) ..lit-
tle Murray Sabin, who was so
much in evidence and who mani-
pulated all the entertainment and
a million and one other things..
Al Kcates, who was responsible
for the daily bulletins that were
released with metropolitan preci-
sion and regularity .. there was
Jean Schlesinger, who so ade-
quately took care of the delegates'
wives that they were loath to
leave our fair city.. Janet Shep-
low, administrative sec'y of the
Men's Council of Detroit, whose
untiring efforts kept everybody
stepping in preparation just be-
fore the convention, and there
were a host of others. I could
devote columns and columns of
space in just lauding those who
deserve it.

On your good sports list . . Of
%the out-of-town guests, Herb NMI-
olsen, and his shadow, Saul Man.
ister .. Maurice Bisgyer and our
beloved National President of the
Supreme Lodge, Henry Monsky.
Among the very gracious and un-
derstanding ladies I again had the
pleasure of seeing was Jean Lauf-
man, now executive director of
the Women's Supreme Council
and vast president of the Supreme
Lodge .It was Mrs. Laufman two
years ago, then in the capacity of
past president of the district, who
installed the officers and insti-
tuted the newly organized Detroit
Lodge Aux.

And now for the highlights of
the week ...Ta tararatarararatata!
'Our old friend Goldie Velick
(Mrs. Nat Shever) is in town.
Welcome Baby! "Es iz tahke
mecheiyeh" when one of the old
timers blows into town after some
absence. There are always parties
galore. However, this - time 'tis
double celebrations, for daughter
Phyllis (the 4th gal in the Ami-
tian group — remember I told you
once that the Amitians Girls —
"kane einhore zol zay nit shotten"
—are still that thick after ump-
teen years — 'bout 30 or there-
abouts—) is ready to embark the
seas of matrimony.. May it be easy
sailing, honey, and judging from
boy Herbert Girard and his very
charming mother and the rest of
the "mishpoche" who all hail from
away down south in Gastonia,
No'th Carolina, "es ken zein a
chutz ihr shodden auf elle yid-
dishe kinder gezagivoren" .. You
should hear Mrs. Sadye Girard
(Herbert's gracious mother) sling
that Yiddish with a southern ac-
cent .. I silo' nuff near all died
listening to her, sugah!

Anyway, there's sho' gonna be
some big doing in the home town
this week ..It started with dinner
fo' the southern visitors at the
Harry Mendelsohns, then open
house at the Shover apartment at
the Lee Plaza for the rest of the
evening ..Thursday, Helen Kirsch-
baum and Rose Mendelsohn are
giving a tea, ('twill be given by
the time the paper is out), if you
please, at the Kirschbaum abode
on , Fullerton, for Phyllis, the
very "chahming" bride-to-be (and
believe you me, she truly is a
lovely and sweet girl despite the
fact that she is "ein airs aint-
zige"); then on Friday, Dorothy
Kaplan and Mary Siegel will en-
tertain at "brunch" at the Kap-
lans.. Saturday's the big event
a bridal shower at Huyler's by
Ida Schwartz, Soph Clinton and
Sadye Gray ( respectively the Den-
tist's, the Accountant's and the ex-
Senator's wives). I know I'll have
loads to tell you next week about
all these affairs. Besides, there'll
be a continual round' of gayeties
all next week and the week af-

George Gudis (Rose Bank, sister
of Sammy). Rose belonged to the
Kadimah Girls and Little Help-
ers group of whom I carried on a
few weeks ago. (Rose, you see,
was one of the bridesmaids at my
wedding—twelve of them I had,
never do anything in a small way).
The Gudis's have been living in
the "Big City" for a good many
years. Have three lovely off-
spring and George is in the fur-
niture manufacturing business —
maple bedroom sets (maybe we
can get it "hulsale", who knows ? )

Have you visited the Drive-In
Market on Grand River at Chica-
go Blvd ? Everything your heart
desires can be purchased there..
From choice vegetables and fruits
to all sorts of frozen foods and
groceries..Besides the superb ser-
vice is dished out by Mollye and
Sammy Banks in person — and
that's no mean service, I'll have
you know ..Since the Banks are
operating there, my shelves are
always stocked full of good things
to eat..

In the excitement of conven-
tions and what, have you, I plumb
forgot to tell you about the lovely
wedding which was performed re-
cently when Eleanor Hurvich,
daughter of Mrs. Sarah Hurvich,
and Saul Robbins, son of Mr
and Mrs. R., were joined in holy
matrimony .. A reception Imme-
diately followed the ceremony..
The newlyweds are honeymooning
in the East..
