Friday, July 19, 1946 DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle JWV Broadcast By PERRY P. BURNSTINE The Department of Michigan, Jewish War Veterans of the Unit- ed States, is busily engaged in a campaign of enlisting in its ranks, ten thousand men and women of the Faith, who were in the armed forces of the United States or its allies in World War II. At the present time, the De. partment of Michigan consists of some fifteen posts and eight la- dies' auxiliaries. Some of the main purposes of the Jewish War Vet- erans as fully outlined in their Constitution are as follows: 1. To maintain true allegiance to the United States of America. 2. To foster and perpetuate true Americanism. 3. To combat whatever tends to impair the efficiency and per- manency of our free institu- tions. 4. To uphold the fair name of the Jew and fight his battles when- ever unjustly assailed. 5. To encourage the Doctrine of Universal Liberty, Equal Rights and full justice to all men. 6. To combat the powers of big- otry an darkness wherever originating and whatever their target. 7. To preserve the Spirit of Com- radeship by mutual helpful. ness to comrades and their families. 8. To instill love of Country and Flag and to promote sound minds and bodies in our mem- bers and our Youth. 9. To preserve the memories and records of patriotic service perfofmed by the men of our Faith. 10. To honor their memory and shield from neglect the graves of our heroic dear. The Jewish War Veterans a e closely affiliated with and coope ate with the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dis- allied American Veterans, Amvets, Polish War Veterans, and Catho- lic War Veterans, as well as many non-veteran groups, to help solve many problems of mututfl interest. The Jewish War Veterans are developing. an active program in the Youth Movement to combat juvenile delinquency, to further education in general among both young and old, to help the Gov- ernment in publicizing worthwhile campaigns, municipal, State and National. A large plot of ground has bech purchased and paid for by the Jewish War Veterans in the northwestern section of Detroit. On this plot these will be a large athletic field and memorial home for veterans. A campaign to se- cure sufficient funds to complete this project, to which the vete- rrins will contribute considerably, will be actively instituted in the very near future. The organization is non-politi- cal. Information in regards to the Jewish War Veterans organiza- tion can be had by writing to the State Department Headquarters, 8122 12th Street at Seward, De- troit 6, Michigan.
