percent—$192,000.
2. AJC expense (2.7 percent of
pledges, one of the lowest ratios

to Palestine. The resolution was
unanimously adopted.
The three day convention re-
sulted in the election to office of
the following men: President,
Louie Pickus of Waukegan, Ill.;
first vice-president, Louis H. Har-
rison of Chicago; second vice-
president, Dr. Irwin Epstein of
St. Paul, Minnesota; and treasur-
er, Gottfried D. Bernstein of Chi-
cago.
The women of the district, hold-
ing their convention concurrently,
elected the following officers:
President, Mrs. Sylvia Levin; first
vice-president, Mrs. Adele Jeffe:
second vice-president, Mrs. Mar-
garet Smith; third vice-president,
Mrs. Matilda Sims; and treasurer,
Mrs. Irene Jacobson.
A resolution of condolence to the
family of the late Sidney Hillman
was bossed. A resolution was
passed arranging for sponsorships
for the Hillel undertaking to bring
in student Jewish refugees from
Europe to universities here where

Jews in Austria

Plan Tag Day in Mt.
Clemens Next Sunday

VIENNA (JTA)—Siegfried Alt-
man and Ernest Stiassny, repre-
sentatives of the World Jewish
Congress, have arrived in Vienna
to investigate the position Of
Austrian Jewry.
While here they will attempt to
aid the Austrian Jewish communi-
ty by: determining the citizenship
stAus of Austrian Jews now In
foreign countries; clearing up eco-
nomic and social questions for
Austrian Jews who intend to be
repatriated; supporting the Jewish
communities, as well as individual
members, in the problem Of resti-
tution of Jewish property and
helping the victims of racial per-
secution to obtain the same privi-
leges granted to political refugees.
Also, by inquiring into anti-
Semitism in Austria, both among
the general public and the gov-
ernment; determining If public
public opinion favors emigration
of Austrian Jews or prefers that
they remain; assisting the Jewish
communities on questions of poli-
tical, social and religious rights;
and extending additional relief to
the needy Jews.

At a special meeting of the Jew-
ish Women's European Welfare
Organization it was decided to
have a tag day in the Mt. Clem-
ens community Sunday, July 14,
the proceeds of which will go to
orphans in Europe.
At the same meeting it was de-
cided to contribute two steamship
tickets for bringing over two or-
phans from Germany.
