Frain Urges All Jews To Vote The
ZOA Ticket for Zionist Congress
By RABBI LEON FRAM
On Sunday, June 30 (and Mon.
day, July 11, Zionists in this
community will go to the polls
and elect American delegates to
the 22nd World Zionist Congress.
Meeting for the first time since
1939, the Congress will he called
upon to make major political de-
cisions affecting the future and
fate of the Jewish Homeland.
It is for this reason that each
Shekel holder should exercise the
franchise to which he is entitled
by virtue of possession of the
Shekel, the small blue certificate
which most members of the local
Jewish community have received
during the past week.
Despite a rather heated propa-
ganda campaign engaged in by
several of the smaller parties, it
is acknowledged by most respon-
sible Zionists, and recognized by
the masses of American Jews that
the Zionist Organization of Amer-
ica and its leadership have carried
the brunt of the political respon-
sibility in this country. Accord-
ingly, it is vital that a tremendous
popular vote be registered for the
Z.O.A. to buttress its prestige and
to fortify its leadership in the ad.
ditional tasks which lie ahead.
The objective, conscientious vot-
er, moved only by consideration.;
of the hest interests of the move-
ment, should have little difficulty
deciding which group merits his
support merely by perusing the
lists of candidates. Heading the
Z.O.A. slate ars e such men as Dr.
Abba Hillel Silver, Louis Lipsky,
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, Judge
Morris Rothenberg, Dr. Israel
Goldstein, Judge Louis E. Levin-
that, Daniel Frisch and others
equally as well known in Zionist
leadership. Detroit Zionists on the
Z.O.A. slate are Rabbi Leon
Fram, Mr. Lawrence Crohn and
Mr. Leon Kay.
From the point of view of Zion-
1st relations with the State De-
partment, the White House and
similar circles, the ZOA IS Amer-
ican Zionism. To •fragmentize
Zionist strength for small parti-
san reasons, to scatter the vote
among many parties for ideologi-
cal reasons which are not under-
stood by the general public, can
result only in confusing the non.
Jewish world, and in undermin-
ing and weakening the powerful
and effective ZOA at • a time
when • it should have additional.
compelling confirmation of the
support it enjoys from American
Jewry.
INSCRIBES FATHER'S NAME
IN GOLDEN BOOK
Dr. Ted Winshall, of Penning-
ton Drive, has inscribed the name
of his late father, Wolf Winshel-
boim, in the Golden Book of the
Jewish National Fund in Pales-
tine.
Winshall contributed $100 to
the JNF on the eve of Shevuoth
in honor of his father's memory.
Baird Stands on
Record as Sheriff
Drafted from a successful law
practice to become Sheriff of
Wayne County, Andrew C. Baird
assumed his office as the chief
law-enforcing officer of Wayne
County when the affairs of the
Sheriff's Department were in a
chaotic condition and the morale
of its personnel was at zero.
He points to the record of the
dept. under his administration as
proof of the success his efforts
have achieved. Today every divi-
sion of his reorganized dept. is
functioning efficiently and honest-
ly and public confidence has been
restored.
Sheriff Baird's nationally known
Identification Bureau was thrown
open to the Army, Navy, Coast
Guard, F.B.I. and plant protec-
tion forces of the area, and hun-
dreds of thousands of men were
fingerprinted and their record
checked as a result.
THE FINAL DECISION ON THE ZIONIST ELECTION IS
A POSTPONEMENT BY CONSENT OF ALL PARTIES
UNTIL JUNE 30.

"As the organization which carried the major burdens of the Zionist movement and of Palestine fund-raising in the past
half century, the ZOA must come to the forthcoming Congress with a delegation commensurate with its size and prestige.
