GI'ing AROUND...

With Frank Beckman

THE DSC WAS presented to the
mother of the late Pfc. Joseph
Bale, Monday night. She received
it composedly from Lt. Col. Nich-
olas W. Dragneff. Her son would
have reacted the same way. The
Distinguished Se r vice Cross,
awarded posthumously, as much
as said that. He died calmly--
courageously—in France. The
Star of David marks his grave.

APPRAISAL FEES ON GI

sharply attack-

the American
Veterans Corn-

are far out of
line with value
of actual ap-
praisal services.
Called on the
Detroit Society
Beckman o f Residential
Appraisers to voluntarily cut
charges in half—from $20 to $10.
When erstwhile servicemen finds
price on anticipated new home too
steep to make VA-approved loan
possible, he still must pay ap-
praisal fee, AVC said.
"If the Veterans Administra-
tion and the Detroit Society of
Appr ' s ers are not willing volun-
tarilt
ro t eliminate the obvious in-
equi ies in the present system,"
said Guy Nunn, AVC Michigan
field secretary, "they will in effect
be endorsing a mechanism for
bleeding thousands of helpless
veterans of hundreds of thousands
of dollars."

shivah had grown from 511 last
year to 633 this year. He added
that the Detroit Jewish Corn.
munity had gone along in its 'sup-
port with the growth of the Ye-
shivah and expressed his appre-
ciation to the Board for the past
year's work.
Following this report, the Board
of Directors elected the following
officers: Rabbi M. J. Wohlgelern-
ter president for the fourth year;
Isadore Cohen, vice-president;
Morris Snow, treasurer; Morris
Mohr, chairman, Administrative
Committee, and Hillel L. Abrams,
secretary.

Max joined them shortly there-

THE HOME OF MR. AND
Mrs. George Horowitz, of 2745
Monterey Ave., still hasn't re-
sumed Its pre-war atmosphere.
Five sons swapped mufti for
government issue when Adolph
and the boys got rambunctious.
Alvin and Marty have since re-
turned after 18 months in India
and two years in Australia and
New Guinea, respectively. Oldest
brother Bill and sailor Saul are
expected home in the near future
from Saipan and Guam.
Just when everything began to
appear normal, Jackie, the young-
est of the five, packed his bags for
a trip to Great Lakes--to enter
the Navy. He's been in two
months now.
Incidentally, Bi'I and Saul spent
the Passover holidays together en
Guam.
