DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle

I ge Si`

By Frank Beckman

Sol Sachs is an optimist. He's
the type of fellow who can look
adversity in the
face and still
manage to
smile. That L.
why Sol is blaz-
i.pg a name for
himself at
Wayne.
In 1942 while
serving as a
counsellor at a
fresh air camp,
Sachs lost in a battle with po-
lio. Afflicted with infantile paral-
ysis, he said, "Oh, well, it could
be worse," and shrugged it off.
Sol's program today is more
analogous to that of one with in-
finite energy than a person who
hobbles about on a walking stick.
He is vice-president of the Hillel
Chapter at Wayne, editor of that
organization's newspaper, advisor
of No. 337 AZA group and a full-
time college senior.
Nearing his 24th birthday, Sachs
is an ardent Larry Adler fan. Ha
attributes this to his own love of
the harmonica.
In the newspaper field, he is a
member of the Pi Delta Epsilon,
national journalism fraternity,
does a great deal of art work for
Panorama and is a member of the
Collegian staff.
Sol is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Dave Sachs, 2955 Monterey Ave.
He has a younger brother, Ted,
who is attending Wayne on a
scholarship.

VETERANS .
Pipe - smoking Herman Katz
knocked the ashes from his briar
and began delving into his Army
career. It reads like this:
Drafted — July, 1943, at Ft.
Custer, Mich.
Basic Training --- Camp Callan,
Calif.
Overseas Duty - 24 months in
New Caledonia, Solomons, Leyte
and Japan.
T10 Assignment -- T /5 gunner
on 40 MM Bofors anti-aircraft
gun.
Discharged - Feb. 10, 1946, at
Ft. Sheridan, Ill.
Hermie, a Northern High School
graduate, is now taking a special
veteran's refresher course at the
Wayne U. He plans to major in
chemistry, with emphasis on plas-
tics.
Looking older than his 21 years,
Katz is working religiously with
the Junior Group of the Allied
Jewish Campaign. He is a mem-
ber of the Aluma and Izfa Zion-
ist organizations and the son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. Katz, 9636 N.
Martindale Ave.

Council Proposes
Election Changes
In Constitution

Recommendations for proposed
amendments to the Council's Con-
stitution, as well as nominations
for the Executive Committee of
the Council, head the agenda for
the delegates' meeting which will
take place on Thursday evening,
May 23, at the Jewish Community
Center.
The proposed amendments to
the Constitution are intended to
further democratize the methods
of election of the members of the
Executive Committee. The Con-
stitutional Revisional Committee is
recommending that the slate pre-
pared by the Nominations Com-
mittee be presented to the dele-
gates meeting prior to the election
meeting, and that further nomina-
tions be made from the floor at
the same time. Elections are to
take place at the following dele-
gates meeting.
Aaron Droock, Council presi-
dent, has appointed a Nomina-
tions Committee consisting of Cla-
rence Enggass, chairman, and
Mrs. Lewis Daniels, Dr. S. Klein-
man, Morris Lieberman, Max Nus-
baum, Judge Charles Rubiner, and
Harry Yudkoff. The Committee is
preparing a slate of nominees for
the Executive Committee and is
prepared to present their candi-
dates if the proposed amendment
is adopted by the delegates. The
annual election meeting of the
Council is scheduled for June 11
at the Jewish Community Center.
