Replete with tang and gusto of
the lusty Elizabethan period, and
starring Ruth Chatterton, "Sec-
ond Best Bed" will have its pre.
Broadway presentation at the Cas›
Theatre, Detroit. the week br•
ginning Monday, May (;, with ma-
tinees Wednesday and Saturday
This new comedy, his first to be
scheduled for Broadway, has bee!'
written by N. Richard Nash,
young screen writer, and is spon-
sored by Miss Chatterton and
John Huntington, both of whom
have previously scored in the pro
clueing field. Miss Chatterton'e
presentation of "Windy Hill," star-
ring Kay Francis, has been tour-
ing successfully all season, while
Mr. Huntington produced the pop-
ular hit, "Dark of the Moon," for
the Messrs. Shubert.
"Second Best Bed" revolves, in
sprightly way, around the love
story of William Shakespeare and
Anne Hathaway. In the bard'.•
last will and testament, his single
bequest to his wife was his sec-
ond best bed. Inasmuch as the
very best bed, in those times, was
usually used only to be looked at
and not slept in, historians differ
on his intent.

Rabbi Leon Fram, president of
the Zionist Organization of De-
troit, has called a conference of
representatives of all the Jewish
organizations of Detroit to launch
an intensive campaign for thr.
sale of the Zionist Shekel.
The Shekel is a biblical coin
which Moses required for payment
by every Jew who was counted in
the census which Moses made of
the Jewish people. Following the
precedent of Moses, the Zionist
Organization cats upon every JeW
in the world to he counted by the
payment of the modern equivalent
of the Shekel or 50 cents. Every
Jew who has bought his Sh?ke!
is entitled to vote for delegati.
to the World Zionist Congress
which will take place this coming
August in the city of Jerusalem
Palestine.
"The Shekel Census has partic•
ular significance in this crises
said Rabbi Leon Fram in issuin'
the call for the Conference, "be-
cause it offers every Jew the op
portunity to make his voice heard
in behalf of the Jewish common-
wealth in Palestine. Our own
State Department, the London
Foreign Office, and the United
Nat ions Organization will he
watching the Shekel Campaign to
see whether
commonwealth in
Palestine is desired only by a
small minority of Jews or by the
overwhelming number of Jewish
people. Every Jew is called upon
to purchase his Shekel in order
that the world may know that
the Jewish state is the will of the
whole Jewish people of America
and of the world."
Rabbi Eliezer Levi of Congrega-
tion Bnai Moshe will preside at
the Conference which will take
place in the small chapel of Con.
gregation Shaarey Zedek Sunday
afternoon, May 5, at 2 o'clock.
Rabbi Levi will be Chairman of
the Shekel Enrollment Campaign
for Detroit and Michigan.
