Palestine Corp.
Pays Dividends
Stopped by War

NEW YORK. — At a dividend
meeting recently the Board of
Directors of Palestine Economic
Corporation declared a quarterly
dividend on its common stock of
$1 per share, payable May 15 to
stockholders of record April 25.
This puts the stock on a $4 an-
nual basis.
Mr. Robert Szold, chairman of
the Board, in making the an-
nouncement declared that the
earnings of the Palestinian sub-
sidiaries justified the resumption
of dividends. "We discontinued di-
vidends at the outbreak of the
war" declared Mi. Szold, "because
of the uncertainty of conditions,
and because we felt it prudent to
plough back any earnings. The
vitality of the economic structure
of Palestine" continued Mr.
Szold, "has made comparatively
easy the transition to peacetime
operations. Our subsidiaries in
Palestine are in sound condition.
The beginnings of resumption of
building activities have resulted in

Finds American
Youth Aware of
Role of Palestine

American Jewish youth is be-
coping increasingly aware of Pal-
es'tine's need for them, declared
Naomi Chertoff, fourth-term presi-
dent of Junior Hadassah, Young
Women's Zionist Organization of
America, upon her return from a
speaking tour to Zionist youth
groups all over the country.
• Miss Chertoff, who set out on
her trip to relate to Zionist youth
organizations her impressions of a
recent stay of several months in
England and Palestine, asserted
Jewish youth here had awakened
to its role in the upbuilding of the
Jewish homeland.
"They realize that Palestine
must lie more than a haven for
refugees, and they want to iden-
tify themselves as Americans, with
the regeneration of their people."
All of those to whom she ad-
dressed her plea for the unanimi-
ty of effort of the American with
the European Jew for the up-
build of Palestine, scoffed at the
anti-Zionist argument that the en-
trance of American Jewry into
Palestine would leave no facilities
or the European refugee, Miss
Chertoff said.
"These youngsters know this
, imple fact," Miss Chertoff said,
"that Palestine calf hold between
four and five million Jews, and
that it now holds only 600,000,"
