tested to Hitler concerning the
policy of Gestapo chief Heinrich
Himmler.
Despite the laughter with which
the audience greeted these denials.
Kaltenbrunner also claimed that
he was not responsible for order-
ing the Luftwaffe to bomb the
Jewish camps of Landsberg and
Muehldorf which was charged in
an affidavit by Bertus Gerous, his
former secretary. After Gerous al.
legedly sabotaged the order, and
prevented the camps' destruction,
Kaltenbrunner ordered the Lands-
berg Jews to be sent to Dachau
where they were to be poisoned.
while the Muehldorf prisoners
were turned over to the Gestape
for killing.
Kaltenbrunner was accused in
an affidavit by another subordi-
nate of ordering the Jews driven
from camp to camp to prevent
them from being liberated by the
Allied armies, even though Himm-
ler himself had ordered that they
be atiowed to remain in the camps
Earlier Hans Lammers, former
chief of the German Chancellory,
admitted that many thousands of
German Government officials knew
of the Nazi policy to exterminate
the Jews. Called as a defense wit-
ness for Alfred Rosenberg, Lam-
mers testified that in 19t2 Goo
ring received orders from Hitler
for the "final solution of the Jew-
ish question," and that the Reichs
marsh0 had passed these orders
on to Heinrich Heydrich, at that
time cleputy chief of the Gestapo
for execution. Lammers insisted
that he did not understand the
meaning of the term "final solu-
tion."
