JERUSALEM (JTA) — Jewish
trade, industry and transport were
paralyzed this week and Jews
throughout the country fasted in
a demonstration of sympathy with
the 1,040 Jews detained aboard the
Italian motor ship "Fede" at La
Spezia, Italy.
Thirteen leaders of Palestinian
Jewry continued their hunger
strike to protest the refusal .4
British authorities to admit di,
La Spezia refugees to Palestine

coed, they are reported to be in
good spirits and in generally good
physical condition. However, their
physicians have barred virtually
all visitors, except members of
their families.
The city was electrified by an
unconfirmed report that the Pal-
estine Government is getting ready
to announce an April 15 to May

VIENNA (JTA)--American mili-
tary authorities have closed the
U. S. zone of Germany to Jews
fleeing Eastern Europe, it was re-
vealed here by Bronislaw Teich-
holtz, director of the Committee
for Transient Jews. He also dis-
closed that the Russians have
prohibited the passage of trans-
ports of Jews across the Slovak-
Hungarian border.
Despite all obstacles, an average
of 700 Jews arrive here weekly,
and wiiu egress from the city
barred, it is impossible for the
Jewish community to house them.
Consequently, the U. S. military
authorities have set up additional
facilities to accommodate the 2,-
000 refugees now in the city.
The Jews had been receiving an
average of 2,500 calories daily, but
as of last week, their rations were
cut to 1,100 daily, which is far
below subsistence level. The daily
menu consists of one cup of cof-
fee, two bowls of thin soup and
less than one ounce of bread. The
JDC is supplementing this diet ,to
the best of its ability, but t114)

Court to Stop War Criminals from
Spreading Anti-Semitic Propaganda

By MOSES SCHOENFELD

NUREMBERG (JTA) --- Fol-
lowing a charge by U. S. Prose-
cutor Robert Jackson that the
defense was seeking to use the
International Military Tribunal us
a "sounding board" for its anti-
Semitism, the court has decided
to appoint a special official io
pass on the relevance of all ma-
terial submitted for printing L-y
defense attorneys.
Jackson's ire was aroused by
material printed by the court'.,
presses for Alfred Rosenberg,
which contained whaT he described
as "violently anti-Semitic and ir-
relevant rubbish." He said that
"the United States cannot print
and disseminate this violent anti-
Semitism. The defense believes we
are here to try the issue of the
causes of anti-Semitism, with this
tribunal as the sounding board.
The issue is not Rosenberg's phil-
osophy, but we are charging the
murder of four to five million
Jews."
Ernst Kaltenbrunner, chief of
the German Security Police, un-
der whose direction millions of

Jews were murdered in Eastern
Europe, testified that he was un-
aware of the extermination of
Jews for many months and, when
he learned of them, he had pro-

Protest Revival of
Ritual Murder

BUENOS AIRES (JTA) — The
DAIA, central Jewish organiza-
tion, has submitted a memoran-
dum to the Government protesting
against charges of ritual martiar
made against Jews by Benjamin
F. Zaccheo, a professor of history
at Normal School No. 10 in Bue•
nos Aires.. It asked that Prof.
Zaccheo be dismissed.
According to the memorandum,
Zaccheo told his class on April 9
that ritual murders by Jews were
an established fact and also laud-
ed the activities of the Spann
Inquisition. Several newspapers,
including the liberal "La Prensa,"
. the Catholic "Pueblo" and the
Peronist organ "Democracia." 13110-
