Sabbath Observance

Jewish Home for Aged Zionist Chapter I

Mrs. George Koven, president of
the Women's Auxiliary of the
Jewish Home for Aged, announced
recently that a special meeting
will be held Monday, April 29, at
1:15 p.m., at the Jewish Home for
Aged, 11501 Petoskey Ave., for the
purpose of a campaign to collect
food, clothing and medical sup-
plies for the Jewish survivors in
Europe. This campaign is nation-
ally sponsored by the Joint Distri-
bution Committee.
Mrs. S. Weller and Mrs. T. Le-
bovitz have been chosen to head
the committee. Members are re-
quested to bring packages to the
meeting.

Plans for a Mothers and Daugh-
ters affair to be held on May 22
are being completed according to
Edith David, entertainment chair-
man of the Detroit Women's Ser-
vice Club. The group has resumed
its meetings at Zack's Catering
Co. and recently made a donation
to the Matzo Fund.

Single Social Club

The Single Social Club will hear
a talk on the Palestine and Eu-
ropean situations at its next meet-
ing scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Sat-
urday, April 13, at the Jewish
Community Center. Middle-aged
men and women are invited to
attend.

Eder Family Club

At the regular monthly meeting
of the Eder Family Club, the elec-
tion of officers for the current
year was held and the following
were named to office: Edward
Brown, president; Mildred Arndt.
secretary, Louis Eder, treasurer,
and Helen Saltzman, correspond-
ing secretary. The next meeting of
the group will take place at Riv-
er Rouge, at which time a bingo
party will be held. The funds rais-
ed at this event will go to the
United Jewish Appeal.

Yura were elected commander
and adjutant, respectively, of the
newly-formed Joseph Bale III
Jewish War Veterans Post at the
April 4 meeting held at the Jew-
ish Community Center.
Guest speakers at the organiza-
tion's first meeting were Harry
Madison, commander of the Jew-
ish War Veterans of Michigan,
and past commanders Samuel J.
Rhodes, Harry Schaeffer and Per-
ry P. Burnstine. The next meet-
ing of the Bale Post is scheduled
for Thursday, April 18, at the Jew-
ish Community center.
The post was named in honor
of Joseph Bale, who was killed in
action on January 30, 1945. Bale
enlisted in the army while a stu-
dent at Michigan State College
and was with the Intelligence Di-
vision of the Infantry.

Millard Lampell, former army
S/Sgt. and New York playwright
and radio writer, flew to Detroit
last Tuesday to act as guest
speaker at the formal installa-
tion of the Sgt. Morton A. Silver-
man Post of the JWV. With Lam-
pell at the ceremony held at the
Statler Hotel, was Ben Kuroki,
Japanese - American winner of
the Distinguished Service Medal,
who was immortalized by the
writer in "The Boy from Nebras-
ka."

Mrs. Willie Shanfleld will talk
on Palestinian music at the reg-
ular meeting of Chapter I of the
Detroit District of the Zionist Or-
ganization of America, to be held
on Thursday, April 18, at 8:15
p.m., at the Jewish Community
Center.
The Sports Committee under
the chairmanship of Selma Jak-
ont is planning a hike and weinie
roast for Sunday, April 28. Infor-

Greenspon Family Club

A "Spring Fiesta" dance will be
held at 9 p.m., Saturday, April 27,
by the Junior Hadassah of Wind-
sor at the Shaar Hashomayim
Synagogue, Windsor. The event
promises to be one of the out-
standing of the season, reports
