does not operate, over one million
Jews depend directly upon the
life-giving aid of the JDC for
their continued survival.
A devastated Europe, permeated
with the poison of anti-Semitism
so thoroughly sprayed by the Na-
zis, holds no possibility of com-
plete rehabilitation of a large por-
tion of the Jewish survivors. As
they did in the days of the Exo-
dus, their hearts yearn for physi-
cal and spiritual sanctuary in the
Land of Israel. They long for an
end of their two millenium-old
Diaspora. By the tens of thou-
sands they are receiving training
in agricultural and industrial
fields to aid their integration into
the Yishuv. Through the efforts
of the United Palestine Appeal,
new land is being bought and de-
veloped, new trade and industrial
opportunities are being initiated
and expended. By this work, the
United Palestine Appeal has con-
tributed enormously to make a
vibrant reality this year of the an-
cient Passover prayer, "Next year
may we all be in the Land of Is-
rael . . ."
Speeds Immigration
With the directive by President
Truman last December speeding
the immigration of refugees under
the • quota Taws, a possible 39,000
Jewish immigrants may be en-
abled to live in this traditional
land of asylum and opportunity.

ice reposes the major responsibil-
ity for resettlement and economic
and social inTegration of these im-
migrants to the American way of
life. The NRS has already per-
formed a spectacular success in
the speedy relocation of refugees
from Oswego and is prepared to
take the fullest advantage of the
opportunity provided by the Tru-
man directive.
This is the promise. But the
promise will be realized only if
the challenge to American Jewry
is met with whole-hearted resolu-
tion. For the work of all three
agencies on which the fate of Jew-
ish refugees everywhere in the
world rests — the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee, the United Pales-
tine Appeal, the National Refugee
Service — depends upon the com-
plete success of the current rec-
ord $1000,000,000 campaign of the
United Jewish Appeal, with which
