DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE and The Legal Chronicle

With Sally Pick's

with Bill Miller (by permission of
Mrs. M.) and with Harry (can he
rhumba . . mamma mia!). I'm
a'speakin' of the Miller boys of
corned beef fame. Didja know
they've moved to their new loca-
tion on Broadway. Tis a lovely
store and the corned beef's still
okeh.

Which reminds me, I dropped
in at the Brothers' eatery on
Dexter that's "Trudy" Horn-
stein and his brothers. .. Looks
like it's the "spot" for everyone.
Convenience on the way home.
. . Saw the Sid Gray's there (Sa-
dye and daughter Lenore who's
Mrs. Teddy Pines looking so very,
very ultra and lovely. . . Boy, but
those Amitian gals are really some-
thin'). . . Jack Varkle (Varkle
Iron and Metal Co.) was partak-
ing of a juicy corned beef with
all the trimmin's accompanied by
a very charming young lady.

Which brings me to the very tal-
ented and beautiful children be-
longing to the Irving Steinbergs
. . Beverly, whose picture was in
the Detroit News 'cause she ap-
peared in a show at the Lion's
Club recently. . . And you know
what . . Beverly won a beauty
contest when she was five years
old, in New York City -- and
her little brother Larry won the
"handsomest boy contest", also in
New York, when he was three
years old.

I, couI(I count on my fingers the
rittr,..._ of people I knew In that
ess. Then he asked me about
ks . , -told me he still sang but
professionally and that did it.
is Jackie Ross -- ye old Saks'
venters should remember him.
ir¢e was that very likeable young-
:ter, a singing M.C. I asked him
to sing a tune and wondered if
he'd like to get back to show busi-
ness (between the war and the
fur business he has been out of
it fur a few years) . . well, he's
back in it . . as of April 1. All
Net iind signed and sealed . .He's
still likeable . . but not a young-
ster and quite thee man.

It's Lester Lapides (Quality
Damp Wash) and Dave Bussey
(Weller Coat & Linen), co-chair-
m en, who've called the dinner
meeting for the laundry and lin-
en division at the Tuller Hotel
for Allied Jewish Campaign sup-
port. . . Dave Bussey is always
ready and willing to help in a
worthy cause or project.

Congrats! Art Schubiner has
been promoted to buyer of the
new Sportsmen's Department at
Epps. Artie is in Chicago to buy
golf needs at the moment. .. Good
luck!

With dawn come thoughts of
Food! Food! My kingdom for
sonic food. Which reminds me to
call your attention once again to
the Russian Samovar. . . The food
is really "deelish," so appetizing-
ly prepared and served. It's a
"treat to eat" at Colonel May-
baum.

It's from Art Leazenby, Cinema
Theatre, comes the news that
"The Informer" is hittin' on all
high. Starring Victor MeLaglen
and Margot Graham.

Here you are, you kosher "bala-
bostes" -- a new vegetable kosher
soap powder manufactured by the
Zober Soap Products and distrib-
uted in Detroit by the Stone
Soap Co.

"'fu eres bien muchacho" (I do
hope my Spanish friends won't
think I'm ridiculing them. "Zol
Gott of hitten" for that would
bust up our inter-faith relations).
But you are a good boy, Sonny
Mars, for letting a certain would-
be big shot "have it" in Chicago
recently, right out in front of the
Chicago Theatre, too.

Tripped the light fantastic tt
the B.P. party the other night

Got a "meelyon" calls wanting
to know if it's the same Amos
Jacobs at the Club Rio as is the
M.C. No! but he's just as smart in
his own way. Makes an excellent
nite-club host and knows his tire
business besides ( Master Tire
Builder, Pontiac). . . There's al-
ways lottsa fun, good food and
music at Club Rio . . lottsa park-
ing (I said parkin' not sparkin')
space . . lottsa dance floor and
it's just far enough out to make
it interesting, really.

'Tis Golda Axelrod
Mazeltov
(daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
A.) that's got herself engaged to
Rubin Finkell (the Benj. Finkell's
pride and joy) of Montreal where
they are going to live happily ever
after, following their honeymoon
thruout Canada, which will follow
their weddin' ceremony at the
bride's home on San Juan here in
town May 19 . . and Lee Dobkin
social chairman of Louis Marshall

formed a local chapter of Masada,
Young Zionist of America. . . The
fact that in a comparatively short
time over 45 active members are
already participating testifies to
the desire of our young men to be
affiliated with a truly Jewish
cause. Their first big fund-raisin;
drive takes form in a dance April
20 at the Old Colony Club. The
proceeds will be contributed to the
Jewish National Fund and the
Brandeis Camp. \S'orthy causes if
there ever were any. Let's help
these young groups. As I said be-
fore, as long as we have Jewish
"Young 'flood" interested in Jew-
ish Welfare -- Jewish "Life Blood"
will continue to flow on. "Amen."

hear his "Lost Weekend" routine
and his magic is just oat of this
world -- but if you've any loose
eggs in your pockets, don't trust
him with them 'cause there are
no words at his command that
will put "humpty-dumpty" togeth-

his puppets occupy an important
niche in the supporting lineup.

shebang hold over for another big

Remember Dick Gale
very clever M.C. in the days of
Club 1040? He's hit the strides
and is quite a way up, too, now.
His 5-year-old offspring, Don, will
be on the way soon with mamma
(used to be Louise Seymour, 'mem-
ber?) to West Coast. Gonna do
a picture for Republic.
