I tried to reach her all evening.

get hack in time.

Denny Beckner and his orches-
tra is another musical aggregation
that has been brougkht back to
Detroit by "popular ,demand," the
publicity agent tens us. benny
and his very danceable music
opened at Latin Quarter last Mon-
day. Heading the very fine floor
show is Eddie Garr, comedy star
who as usual does an excellent.
job. His "Jimmy Durante" calls
.1-,or much enthusiastic applause. .
Capella and Patricia are one of
the finest dance teams that hit
Detroit in many a moon. Their
routines, spins, and turns are
splendid . . and the costuming?
, . oh, the costuming is superb!
I'm told that lovely Patricia has
her legs insured for one-fourth of
a million bucks . . and that the
team is contracted to M.G.M. .
Montes De Oca & Co. from South
America, hold the audience spell-
bound with their breathtaking
trampoline work -- the leaps and
bounds, catches, headstands, keeps
'b)our heart up in your throat. .
The Virginia Tiff gals are still
performing at their best . . while
Ramon and his newly-acquired
Latin Spitfire, Tonita, still con-
tinues on with the rhumba music.
.. Tommy Montgomery continues
to please the Lounge guests at
the organ.

'

Ah! Take a deep breath! I can
smell the fragrance of the gor-
geous flowers that'll be on exhibit
at the annual Flower Show at
Convention Hall which starts to-
day (March 30) -- as I write this
a few days in advance. You don't
need an imagination to visualize
the beauty and magnificance of
this show. It will continue on
thru April 7 and if there ever was
a "must" on your list of places to
go to, it should be the Flower
Show.

Cool, the "Romantic Singing Per-
sonality," and his orchestra re-
turned to Lee 'n' Eddie's. It is one
of the finest orchestras that has
appeared at this popular rendez-
vous, and the many many friends
which Harry made during his pre-
vious stay are delighted with his
return. Radio is responsible for
Cool's rapid click to the peak of
vocal success and Harry's own
hard plugging and diligence in
securing a fine aggregation, for
the band's success. Tall dark, and
handsome, if we weren't "a-feared"
about how the charming Mrs. C
would take it, we mite go on and
tell you all about the feminine
following Harry has acquired. .
But don't worry, Mrs. C., "there's
safety in numbers." .. Stan Kram-

tured in the show Lee Henderson's
5th Ave. Mannequins provide the
musical comedy dancing back-
ground. The ochestra broadcasts
direct from the club every Mon-
day, Wednesday and Friday, from
12:10 to 12:30 a.m.

Amos Jacobs, former amicable
Detroiter, has taken over the
reigns of host at the Club Rio out
Pontiac way, which speaks well
for a gayer atmosphere, a surety
of good food, and good liquors.. .
Club Rio is ideally located these
springy, mellow days, when your
thoughts drift to long drives, coun-
try lanes, romance and what have
you? Club Rio adequately answers
the call to all of these. . . The
gay rhythms of Ernie Mitchell's
band. the happy, frivolous atmo-
sphere, the easy congeniality of
your host all add up to a grand
and glorious evening of fun.

Saw in Chicago - - Golda and
Izz Haimowitz (former Detroit
Lodge and Auxiliary members),
who recently moved to the Windy
City. Both are looking exception-
ally well and feeling fine. They
really took care of their gal friend

Sal . . "making the rounds" . .
Sunday dinner at a very charming
friend's house -- Ben Silberman --
where we really had loads of fun.
Made records, played gin rummy.
(Imagine ME in a relaxing home
atmosphere) and where I annexed
a wealth of new stories. Among
charming people I met was Betty
Carroll -- What an atomic per-
sonality that gal has -- Dr. and
Mrs. Stern and the very sweet
sister of Mrs. "Fan" (I'm so sorry
I'm so poor at last names) .. also
saw Martha Raye (Latin Quarter),
Nicicy Condos, Buddy Lester, Willy
Shore. . . Iry Lasky (Used car
king -- formerly Detroiter). Iry
told me all about his son Willie
Lester (band leaders) -- the kid's
ambition and pop's desire to put
him in business but no go -- I
know all about that musician bus-
iness -- but if the kid's "got it,"
there's nothing you can do about
it and judging from his letter, Irv,
he's okeh and will go places. .
We were all at breakfast at the
Trade Winds (breakfast -- juicy,
huge steak and ribs, but delicious)
. . also saw Paul Kaye (George
Olsen's band), Tommy Randall,
vocalist, Sunny Dunham's orches-
tra--Dick Roberts, Foster's croon-
er. . . Talked with Bea Sarche,
who's married and is now Mrs.
Owens, if you please, and secre-
tary to Paul Marr Theatrical
Agency (That's close enough to
show business for her) -- and saw
Bin Miller again (War Assets
Dept.) .. Thanks for a lovely eve-
ning, Bill . . and, oh, I met so
many many more. . . Thanks, too,
to Susie Gallagher, Morrison Ho-
tel, for the excellent accommoda-
tion.

•

And now it's about 7 a.m. I'm
"tard," I am! So I guess I'll just
quit, but first I must remind you
that 'twill be„Artie Fields and his
orchestra at Lee 'n' Eddie's start-
ing April 26. Guess most of all
Detroit and at least half of Chi-
cago know that by now. . . e:They
know, too, that Belle Baker will
headline the floor show.
