All Jewish organizations in De- troit were asked to urge their members to attend the city-wide rally by David J. Cohen, Detroit attorney and president of Congre- gation Bnal David, who is chair- man of the Praesidium. Plans for the rally, at which campaign leaders will speak on the urgent need for support of the $2,000,000 drive of the Allied Jew- ish Campaign, were drawn at a meeting of the Advisory Council of the Jewish Federation Organi- zation Division, held Sunday, Mar. 10. r — - Friday, March 15, 1945 Henry Monsky Addresses ' Bnai Brith. Gathering Here Before an overflow audience at the Hotel Statler last Wednesday evening, Henry Monsky, national president of Bnai Brith presented an inspiring picture of the hopes and aspirations of the Jewish peo- ple in Palestine. Mr. Monsky presented a charter to the Rabbi Zager Lodge, newly organized in Detroit and summed up the work of Bnal Brith on the national and international scene. Excorciating the anti-Zionists who had appeared before the An- glo-American Inquiry Commission to testify, Monsky reiterated his own certainty that Palestine was the only place for Jews from Eu- ropean Displaced Persons Camps to go. "They want rehabilitation, not just food and clothing," he said. And they should go to Palestine as a matter of right. People talk of Jews who are in Palestine ille- gally. That is nonsense. The only illegal thing about it all is • the keeping of Jews out of that coun- try." Discussing the future of Jews, he said, "Let us not be too pes- simistic about the future. Our cause is a righteous one and a righteous cause, while it may be retarded, cannot be frustrated." Monsky wound ue, his talk in a burst of oratory with a passionate appeal for unity among Jews. His last words were a quotation from Dr. Leo Baeck who had been told by an anti-Zionist that there was room for Jews in Russia, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Dr. Baeck's reply was a question. "Have you got the visas in your pocket?" he asked. "We know what we want," he quoted a famous Jewish refugee as saying. ''If you can't help us, at least don't obstruct us."
