all Industry in Poland has been
nationalized, All foreign capital
has been bought out by the gov-

phenomenal strides forward. In
fact, for the first time in Polish
history, all industry belongs to
the workers. There are no. strikes.
There is no unemployment.
With all the country despoiled
of cows and horses by the Nazis
and with only the barest of tools,
the farmers nevertheless have
more than ninety percent of the

Six Political Parties
Politically, Poland has a provi-
sional government which originat-
ed with the underground move-
ment during the war. This June
there will be an election with six
political parties competing for of-
fices in the government.
It is here that the U. S. State
Department comes in. The curse
of Poland in the past was always
the vast number of political par-
ties that fought each other inces-
santly. Now, surrounded by ad-
visers of the old fascist regime,
the U.S. Ambassador informed
Nowak that unless more political
parties were established, there
would be no loan forthcoming
from the U. S. Government.
On the subject of anti-Semitism,
the same sinister forces are in the
background. It is true, Nowak ad-
mits, that there is a great deal
of latent anti-Semitism among

The government in Poland, No-
wak asserts, is friendly to Jews
and has made anti-Semitism a
crime with heavy punishment. It
is up to the Jews, said Nowak, to
stay in Poland now while the re-
gime is friendly to them and win
back all the rights they have lost.
It is up to them here, he contin-
ued, to protest to the State De-
partment against the unfriendli-
ness of our ambassador there
and against the use of American
money for subversive purposes.

certain branches of the popula-

ever, is a different proposition. It
is coupled with assassinations of
liberal people in the government
of which there have been almost
fifteen hundred since the end of
the war.
These assassinations, charges
Nowak, are financed by American
money. They are perpetrated by
old guard, fascist forces. Crimin-
als captured after the crimes are
almost universally . found to have
American dollars in their posses-
sion. To date, more than a mil-
lion dollars in American money
has thus been captured. It is re-
actionary forces in this country,
Nowak claims, eager for the
downfall of liberal government in
Poland who are furnishing the
funds for this terrorism.
