friend, and if and when you do
reach it, your kind don't keep it.
It takes "RIG MEN" — big men
mentally and morally — to remain
successful. No matter how much
grooming a sow gets, it's still a

with Jimmy. . Seen at Lindy's —
Johnny Isaacs and Whisperin'
Willie Collins (Chapelle & Will-
iams) and, by the way, Willie is
one of the best liked personalities
in the music business. . Why
was the main switch pulled on
Jerry at the Copacabana recently?
Could be! . . Maybe Johnny Le-
bdw didn't make the town with
Del Parker, Dick Stabile, Ostfeldt
(Charlie Spevak's partner) while
in N. Y. recently. .. By the way,
Johnny, that pretty you were
holding hands with (Maxine Arm-
strong) isn't too bad on the eyes,
you know.
•
From Muskegon we hear: The
poker games are the most quietly
conducted affairs and those "ko-
sher" hamburgers the most deli-
cious. .. We hear, too, that all
the eligible gals are either swing-
ing with bands or tied to a bed-
post at home after S p.m.
•
Amazing .. this continued pop-
ularity . . but evvree-bodee goes
to Bobbie's. It's the smartest spot
to go. Southern fried chicken —
mmm! "Poke" chops or veal steak
. . just ennnything you want.
And can that Adele play the piano
and make the Novachord hum?
And does Mattie croon those love
tunes? And does Jimmy Ruther-
ford give out with that "Old Man
River" stuff, and Jonesy's tenor
isn't hard on the ears either. It's
where all celebs meet after their
shows and its fun galore.
•
While mom's in New York and
pop's gallavanting around in Tex-
as and New Mexico, Julius, son of
the Sid Siegals, is taking in the
sites in Chicago with his pal, Mar-
ty Madvin. .. By the way, there'll
be another Siegal's Sportswear
Shop in Ferndale soon.
•
Did you know that Herb Schak-
ne after much difficulty in locat-
ing the proper property is finally
located about 25 miles (forgot the
name of the burg) from Los An-
geles, with a Kaiser-Frazer Agen-
cy? Here's "glick". Herb is our
Schak's (former Chronicle owner)
boy.
•
Headliner Harry Jarkey, the
comedy jumping-jack and master
of ceremonies, is rapidly adding
up the weeks to his current en-
gagement at Club 509. Harry is
now rounding out his first month
at this spot and his present pop-
ulaility indicates a long run for
the clever mirth-maker. .. Belva
White, the blonde bombshell of
song and piano, continues to prove
a strong attraction in her twenty-
seventh week. . . Newcomers are

Get Harry Lipson who's doing
those very attractive ads for the
Michigan Horticultural Show that
are appearing in the papers, to
tell you the story about the trav-
eling salesman and the red-headed
schoolteacher. . . Uh, uh, 'tain't
what you think it is at all. . . He
wants me to tell you that you'll
be a-saving money if you buy
your tickets for the greatest flow-
er show ever staged in these here
parts, in advance, for sale at the
most important store in your
neighborhood. .. The show is on
from March through April 1.
•
A date at eight, and the realiza-
tion will match the anticipation, if
what It takes is just fine food,
right atmosphere, good music, ex-
cellent entertainment topped with
service that's right. . . All that
and more at Ted Llpsitz' Supper

ing offerings of its kind, and Artie
Brooks and Margie, talented nov-
elty dancers. . . Hold-overs include
Johnny Rullo, the singing favor-
ite; The Jitterbugs and The 509
Adotables. Lee Walters and his or-
chestra do the music for dancing
and show.

Larry Lawrence books another
Hit Show at the Latin Quarter.
This is Ruthie
Dayc, the clev-
er tapretty who
adds zip and
color to a fast
moving show,
where Lenny
Gale is howling

very accurate
impressions of
radio personali-
ties. . . Fisher
and White add
a zany note to
Ruthie nay°
the show . . .
There's some thrilling balancing
by the three Glenns. . . The Vir-
ginia Tiff girls do some smart
routines as usual, and there's
Jimmy Joy's Orchestra sending
solid hot tunes for the dancing.
. Ramon and his Latiners arc
still holding their own and Tommy
Montgomery still reigns at the
Cocktail Lounge at the organ.

An excellent place for that spe-
cial party or sales meeting or ban-

Call on Charlie Parr, the very ca-

into the beautiful Fireside Lounge,
which is being completely redone,
for a snack or a refreshing cock-
tail or drink.

From California we regret to re-
port that Dr. Leo Newfield has
passed away (may his soul rest
in peace). He will long be remem-

good deeds and philanthropies
which he championed...If there's
such a thing as earning one's way
to Heaven, Leo should have re-
ceived first class transportation. . .
Our sincerest sympathies, Olga.
